It may interest you to know that a newage Impreza running the same power as an FQ360 is a fair bit quicker up to 100mph from a standing start. That is without needing to buy a new clutch as well.

Just thought I'd test it given this conversation.

sometimes i feel a bit sheepish pulling up in the scooby if am going out somewhere in the evening. Its not so bad in the evo.

The evo feels more solid as in no rattles or bangs.

No headache or ears ringing after a 2hr drive.

For a 8 year old car the sti type r runs rings around it not for comfort or luxury just racing in small back roads the evo has more power which you can feel it but by the time that powers comes in to play the sti has already said good bye!

its a tuff one both are very good cars a easy way to put it... more smile factor in the sti type r I’ve been really impressed with type r.

the evo suffers from brake fade and overheats starts crying after 30mins of hard driving.

Even on the top end I’ve had both side by side at *65 MPH

lol oh well think iv’e duffed my chances of selling the evo on here now!

That MR360 should have destroyed the type R all day long (must be the Evo driver) unless the scoob is heavily modified

I have a standard Evo8 MR 320 and have come across the odd sti here and there and they are no match with the Evo, apart from the WR1

Has'nt the type R got a close ratio gear box with the longer fith gear making it much quicker of the mark.
My WRC v6 type R has that set up which makes it blisteringly quick of the mark.

id have thought that evo would have smoked the type r tbh....maybe comes down to the driver and his launch.....although id say put a genuine 360bhp type r against an FQ360 and id say the scooby would def win, evos are hardcore but very harsh to drive compared to a scooby

also its a bit of an unfair comparison to compare a 8-9 yr old car with alot fresher modern evo 9 FQ360.......get a Type RA-R and an FQ and see whats more sorted...i know what id rather have ;-)

Had an interesting drag race a while back with a similar thing. My Type R with a few bits done running 320bhp against a Evo 6 with similar bits done (exhaust and remap) Running a guestimated 380bhp. Spent a while talking to the guy in the que at Shakespere, we decided he should win easily, however off the line, both with good launches, the type R was quicker, he started to real me in half way down the strip and we crossed the line dead even, seperated by 0.003 of a second!

Sound very confident! Well when the newage car has given you a pasting, then just to prove that older supposedly inferior classics can still run with the best of them I will also give your evo a pasting

A classic is considerably lighter than a newage, so in a straight line if my 360/390 newage can give a FQ360 a pasting then at a guesstimate you would need to be running around 320-330 bhp in a classic to do the same.

I think the newer cars will have the edge over a classic in terms of handling once you bring bends into the equation. However, as ever this is more difficult to judge as driver skill also comes into the equation.

Evos are not as untouchable as their owners like to make out. I do love em though.

like for like scoobies seem to be quicker up the strip...i watched a vid of a tommi makkinen evo 6 and a sti V5 type R and the sccoby was quicker to 60 and 0,2 seconds quicker overall in the 1/4 mile....suppose its down to weight, classics are pretty light mine came in at 1235kg on the weighbridge

i always thought evos felt quicker though? then again i havent been in a scooby yet thats running 1.7+ bar on a TD05 lol.

440bhp in a classic that must have cost you an arm and a leg I'm surprised it hasn't gone pop yet , anyway I thought we were talking about standard power vs standard as you know I can tune my MR320 TO 400bhp very easily and that would be a different story against your 440bhp classic as the internals on the 8MRs are stronger and can handle 400-420 all day long without melting

I was left with no choice I'm afraid I was sick and tired of Scooby drivers telling me "my sti is faster than your Evo blah blah" So I just handed his **** over to him once and for all, as you can see

no harm to you sir but a 440bhp classic would still smoke a 400bhp evo 8/9......search for the bullet on youtube and youll see what a 420bhp type R does to an M6
