Hi Spoon
I have taken your advice and have asked Laura to phone all the companies mentioned.....she used to work for BT so is much better on the phone than me and a seasoned pro LOL
I'll let you know how she gets on
Pet Plan have phoned constantly like double glazing salesmen at all hours which has pi$$ed me off but in the end it's not my call !!
cheers
Shaun

petplan everytime - it's a whole life policy, ie your pet is covered whatever age, whatever condition and whatever circs. it's worth the £extra when your K9 gets older [the premium just rises with age, claims aside] and starts suffering problems and/or an accident at an age where the small print in cheaper policies funnily enough precludes cover.
Others may be cheaper but few offer that level of cover.

However, I'd be interested in how many of those that claimed successfully haven't seen a big premium hike the following year. Petplan did, and I think still do, have a bigger excess than most and then there's the initial premium to boot too which can be a lot more monthly!
I see Petplan as the British Gas and BT of the pet world and if familiarity is the winning factor then Petplan win.
There's no reason why people shouldn't shop around annually for the best package. The above quoted utility companies largely exist in the now much more competitive market on those that don't bother to look around.
Of course if people don't care what they pay for peace of mind it is their choice too.
Personally I insure my dogs primarily for third party liability even though they are covered for injury/illness too.

We are with tesco's and it paid for it self many times over within the first year. My lab chased the postman and ran into our metal gate at the side of the house and knocked out two of her front teeth and damaged another one.
Our normal vet couldnt repair the damage and we got refered to the Edinburgh Veterinary college and the bill came to around 500 quid.
The insurance paid for it all.

My Rottie did the same and was fine
The gate was rubber ducked though Took ages to straighten it out
We're with more than. Been absolutely excellent but not the cheapest.

The good thing about petplan is that they do not limit the time of cover for an illness, we insured our last dog with Dog Breeders with no complaints, until she was diagnosed with arthritis and put on long term anti inflammatories and pain killers and the certificate came back saying that she was only covered for 18 months
Unless they were working on a miracle cure
