Rats deserting the sinking ship.
I am thoroughly brassed off with people saying they are off abroad because they don't like what's happening to OUR country.
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT THEN.
Either go, or start thinking about what YOU can do to make changes.
But for Gawd's sakes, stop whinging.

IMO the sort of people who are doing the whinging are unlikely to be the sort of people to get off their *rses and go anywhere!
I can't really imagine they would fit the profile of any other country's immigration policy.
They are after doers, not moaners.

I don't think I used the word lazy.
Poorly motivated and useless would probably fit the bill though.
ps. If I had a life, I wouldn't be on here.

Well I actually do not have a residence any longer in Perth as I am seperated and work over seas . But we were in Applecross-which I recommend . It is an expensive suburb , but has quick access to the city , on the river and historically has excellent real estate value growth.
In answer to your other question , yes it took me a long time . For others it can be a quick transition and they become an "Aussie" in no time.True colours are when the Ashes are being played - I support the Poms .Not unlike every Aussie in the UK , they will be supporting Australia.

I've been trying to get a job out there with a 457 sponsorship, but it's proving tricky. The companies want someone NOW or are not interested in sponsorship.

There's some links and more details on a thread i started not so long ago:
https://www.scoobynet.com/non-scooby...work-visa.html

I work in IT (DB Programmer) and i pass the skills test. Not too fussed on where we go, although Sydney & Perth are favourites.

Would love to go to NZ to live (done 2 winter seasons there now), but i've not been able to find any relevant jobs there.
Try seek.co.nz. NZ is a beautiful place to live and work.

The reason why the 457 visa in Australia is tricky is because the company has to demonstrate that the skills (You have) are not available locally.

My sister called me last night, in her southern English accent, and the first thing she said to me was "You're sounding more Aussie"!

Bugger!

The other good thing is that, as a PoME, I can say things like "At least I didn't steal a loaf of bread to get here!" etc etc..
