Not a chance.
Lose a limb, and life can go on pretty normal.
Lose your smell, and life can go on pretty normal.
Lose your taste, and life can go on pretty normal.
Lose your sight. You're fcuked.
Not in a Million years would I go for eye surgery. I might be half blind, but rather that than completely blind.

Without my glasses or contact lenses, I was pretty close to blind!
I don't believe that anyone has been blinded by laser eye surgery, but thanks for the scaremoungering! As with any cosmetic surgery, the risks have to be weighed up, but like with all things, it is not black and white.
It's not like someone is jabbed me in the eyes with a rusty nail, hoping it will work!
You enjoy/endure your glasses/contacts, and I will enjoy my near 20:20 vision!

I shall quite happily be known as speccy 4 eyes for the rest of my life. Rather that than be sat there in old age blind due to eye surgery.
Remember, no long term side effects are known, as the procedure is still new.
Each to their own. I'm of the opinion that ANY risk to my eyes is TOO risky.

Andy T, what was your pre op prescription? I asked this of Steve (2 yrs ago, lol!) and his eyes weren't too bad at 1.25/1.75. Mine are more like 7.5 & 8.5.
My understanding is that the procedure doesn't work too well for those with particularly bad eyesight?
One thing I'd say is that my understanding was that halos when driving at night are common on a permanent basis. The comments here suggest otherwise.

Mine were 4.75 and 5.0, and I expected it to take longer to heal, but as I would say the discomfort was mensured in days, weeks for it seem normal, and a couple of months for the halo effect to wear away (it was a gradual thing). I'm glad my eyes were done in August, as they healed in time ready for night driving!
I was driving less than 24 hours later!
I would suggest a consultation if you are unsure. You need to split the hearsay and the BS from facts and other peoples experiences.

Andy, with your prescription, I know that they sometimes turn you away. I would suggest Moorfeilds Eye Hospital in London. If it can be done, they will hav ehte ability, if not then at least you know.

Cheers Andy. No plans at the mo, but always something I have in mind as I've become less tolerant of contacts over time!

I had mine done at Moorfields two weeks ago. I was -2.75. I had wavefront Lasik. My right eye is now perfect but I am having problems with my left eye which now seems to be +1.0. They tell me to be patient and it will come back towards zero but I am starting to think it has been over corrected (one of the possible side effects) It's making it very hard sitting in front of computer screens all day as the vision from the left eye is a bit blurry at screen distance. At this stage I cannot say I am too happy with the results. My vision is good now but the difference between the two eyes is really annoying.

You are only two weeks into the recovery of fairly major surgury!
For the first 3-4 weeks, I was getting mild headaches as my brain was getting use to differences between the eyes. It got better with time, with the headaches gone after the first month.
Give your eyes time to heal, and your brain to compensate! Everyone is different, but regular checks are needed during the early days. My eyes were checked on a regular basis after the surgury to ensure the healing process was as expected, up until the three month check for the sign off.

Ok thanks for that Andy. Unfortunately I live about 2000 miles away from the UK so I can't go back for check ups before the 3 month check up. It's just worried me a bit how one eye can go from -2.75 to +1.0, it's a big move the other way. I could understand it if I started at -7.0 as the error as a percentage is then smaller but it does seem a long way out given the initial myopia. We will see how it goes I guess.
Did the difference between your eyes ever get to the stage where they are both the same, or when you say it got better with time, do you mean you just got used to the difference with time? Did you have over correction and it went back to normal?

One eye is spot on, other can't quite read the bottom line. There is a minor difference between the two eyes, but the brain is compensating for it. So I got use to it with time, rather than time solving it.
