Don't think it requires much to remember a >301 three digit number, after all it's in your face every time you drive the car..!

How **** do you need to be to remember what number house you live at, your telephone number, card pin..!?

This is the last I'm saying on this post, but if I'm wrong then I apologise..
However, you can't ignore the fact that the owner took a stupid gamble with the tracker/insurance and lost..!

Secondly, how come he doesn't know the limited edition number..? Isn't it on a plaque in front of the gear stick. He you can remember the number plate but not a number between 1 - 301.?

If I'm wrong about this I apologise and hope you get the car back, but it does sound a bit iffy TBH..!
Thank you very much for your input there but we have nothing to hide. We are a family and my dad is one of the most honest and decent men you could meet. He did not try to 'blag' the insurance situation and told them straight that we didn't have a tracker hence the reason we are not getting paid out for it. Nothing 'iffy' there at all thank you very much.

As for everyone else, your help is much appreciated and I have passed on all your advice to my dad.

I think what Jason is referring to as "blagging" is when your dad took out the insurance initially(not the claim), did you dad think there was a tracker already installed? My car has no tracker and I have no intention of getting one so thats what i told my insurance company, had to pay for a cat 1 alarm installation tho.
Im not in any way doubting that the theft is not genuine, im only trying to explain what i believe Jason meant.

ah right this explains my previous post, it was only theft that the policy was not covered for without the tracker. just ignore me.

I was thinking the very same about how genuine this thread is.

If the car was your pride and joy, you WOULD know the UNIQUE number it was out of the run of 300.

If it was so special it would have had a Trakker fitted as per the conditions applied by the Insurance Company .... no-one is too busy to get that sorted on their pride and joy.

I'm sorry if it's all genuine, but it doesn't really add up, does it?

Of course, it could have just gone all wrong for you and these things happen, but to have no Insurance is a travesty.

It was his pride and joy and he intended to get a tracker but unfortunately was too busy and didn't get round to it. Had vans tracked.

Why would I make this up?!

No idea .....

But you must admit that it is odd he doesn't know what number he owned?

And that he was too busy to get his car fitted with a Trakker, but he did his vans?

I genuinely feel for him and it's good that you are using this medium to try and find it ......... but, it doesn't really sound like a 'pride-and-joy' car .. does it?

Chill out guys, theres nothing to be gained by questioning whether this is true or not, lets presume it is true, I would hate my car being stolen, to be honest I wouldn't want it back either but 100% for sure I'd want the theiving gits collared for it, although not a great deal happens to them in the law of our land. Keep it civil.

When i was insuring mine, if the policy required a tracker i phoned around until i found a policy that didnt require one.

since theft is the most likely event to happen to the scoob seems ridiculous to take a policy out that is only 3rd party as such.

3 wanted a tracker fitted, 5 didnt require a tracker, so i went with one of the 5.

but hey,all old news now, hope you find it, have a happyish ending

good luck

cheers

Will keep an eye out for it, and hope it all pans out.

My car required a cat1 for the theft cover, booked it for as soon as possible although had to wait 3 days for a spot to get it fitted. Didnt sleep too soundly and had 3 krooklocks / handbrake locks and parked the wifes car behind it on the drive at night untill it was fitted and I had full cover.
Couldnt imagine not getting it done and they came out to fit it while I was at work.

These things happen and im sure your dad meant to get it done when he could, Let this serve as a lesson to anyone else who may be in a similar position.

Exactly.

Still, as a father of a daughter myself, I find it humbling to read that the girls are doing this for their father.

Hope all ends well.

The number is written down somewhere. My dad doesn't know of this thread because we wanted to try everything and suprise him in the small chance it did come back. I haven't posted this to be accused of lying. We are a straight family who've been very unlucky.

Don't worry about negative comments, you are doing what you can for your dad and that is the main thing.

It is a shame he didn't have tracker fitted, but you can't dwell on that forever!

Still I hope the car turns up and well done again, please don't get upset by anything in this thread.

Firstly sorry to hear the news and I think its great what you are doing for your dad .... My children would probably be the ones TWOCing the car in the first place

Oooh theres so much paranoia going on here!!
Its sad news when anyone gets there car stolen no matter what the make/model dont you think?.....and no, being flamed for it dont seem the right thing to me either.

I understand the car has a unique number on the console 1-301 but come on guys how many of you will get to see the inside of it when it passes you on the motorway?........ it would only really be seen if you were offered it for sale...

Better to be on the lookout for a UK300 with front end damage first dont you think...

Thank you to the last two posts. My dad's car was his pride and joy regardless of what anybody says and all I'm trying to do is at least try to spread the word around and maybe get it back, even though it's probably long gone by now and we're slowly accepting that.

I meant no offence and 'blag' was probably the wrong word to use..

Look at it this way, any comments on this thread are helping to keep it current, ie BTTT.

As someone once said, "there's no such thing as bad publicity"..

The obvious reason would be that you are a Tracker installer, and business is slow. (No comment intended on the integrity or otherwise of the original post.)

You really think everyone is going to rush to get there Tracker fitted by this one guy? There are loads of Tracker Installers out there. Try and leave comments like this aside. They're no help to anyone.

I question the reliabilty of the tracker anyway. I have it for insurance purposes, it has been maintained once a year. My Scoob has been in a garage for 2 weeks, engine out, i never had a phone call to say something is wrong. The tracker battery i understand has only about 17 hours of standby time left after a battery is taken off. I am left wondering why this didnt trigger off some sort of warning?

There is a potential loophole with trackers anyway.

When you ring most insurance companies they ask 'does it have a tracker installed' to which you reply 'yes/no'.

On your insurance documents it'll state 'Tracker - Yes/No'

Most companies don't actually ask 'Is it activated?' mearly 'Does it have a tracker'

Now in my opinion having a tracker and having one activated is 2 different things.

Just wondered if your able to expose this loophole? guessing not as you'd already stated it had no tracker to the insurance. My friend bought an M3 with a tracker and it wasn't activated but he told the insurance it had a tracker, which was 100% truth. When the car got stolen he exposed the loophole, however the car turned up in a lockup less than 1 mile from his house anyway stripped down to near enough the chassis.

Me I just transferred my tracker fee from my Clio V6 to the Scoob, even if it increases 1% chance of a return it's worth it to me.

I'm sure 99% of insurance companies are no where near as thick as your mate's company and they will as mine did - ask for proof that the tracker is active
