It's called being a "floating voter" - I.e. where the true electorical power lies. It is people like Martin and myself that decide who runs this country. Your "I'll never vote Tory/Labour" voters have no influence whatsoever.

Last nights votes have no impact at all on paliament in terms of MPs. By-elections and General elections are for MP's which is a different matter entirely.

It is not unusual to have a local council run by one party, and the MP for that constituancy be from a different party.

Give it a few weeks and I think Mr. Clown will find a knife sticking out of his back. Inserted, I suspect by a Miliband.

I do however find the news about vote rigging the most disturbing bit so far. If that becomes rife-we are a lost nation! Zimbabwe here we come!!! Or the USA for that matter.

Les
Well my meaningful thoughts are/were that it's a pretty poor choice all round, I wouldn't have voted for any of them.

Ken Clarke would of got my vote for the Tories (if he was running). It's tough to get excited about the choice we have.

If Johnson wins a wish him good luck.

The reason I appear to be sitting on the fence on a few issues is because I don't view the world in absolute terms, it's all shades of grey, particularly in politics.

I love the way that the Labour lot are blaming one incident (10p tax) and the poor economic conditions on their appalling results.

It's not that you idiots - it's because you are a bunch of lying, two-faced, stealing, incompetent, financially manipulative scum with no clear mandate to rule in England; whose leader is unelected and who has signed a document clearly stating that he will put the needs of Scotland above anyone else!

You've created a society where living off the state is profitable and increased the tax burden on those willing to work beyond anything seen before to pay for this. You've increased the size of the civil service to levels never seen before. The number of people actually PRODUCING anything is at an all time low. You have cripped the police and medical services behind mountains of paper-work and useless jobs. You attack freedom and villify the innocent, you have created a society of mistrust and misrule. Rather than try to lift the standard of the least in our society you drag the rest of us down. You nuture a culture of reliance in a blatent attempt to buy the votes required to keep you in your luxury. You breed ignorance of what matters and promote devisiveness and call it integration. You have lost what it is to be British and push the patriotric out to the poltical fringes.

I hate all you stand for and all that you have done to almost ruin this country.

Guido, come back.. all is forgiven.

Tories up to 198 seats gained with 30 still to declare Think Tories will be a damp squib but the satisfaction on seeing Labour get such a richly deserved kicking is exquisite. Set up my whole weekend!

Mr Brant Sir!

Stop your leftie spin before i slap you.

It may be local elections - i think you will find that people voted on national issues and it is directed at the MP's and a sign of things to come.

This is not just local issues by any means.

If the unelected pension thief had any sort of dignity he would stand aside and call a general election now.

But of course, he hasn't.

Thats a good enough answer Martin, and as someone also with no political bias I agree.

The difference though is that try as I may, I find it very difficult to find much good if any in this cobbled up occasional imitation of real Labour in the name of the "third way" which has done such an efficient job of wrecking this country and all it used to stand for.

I don't understand what you mean by 'wrecking the country' surely it's not like that really? To me some things are better, some things are worse, but mostly things haven't really changed.

Well just had a business meeting with my business partner this afternoon and it was just as well we didnt do it in the pub, because we only managed to contain our hatred for the weasel that is know as ken without exploding and hurling abuse and our pint glasses at someone. Instead we had a calm meeting to discuss the implications of ken getting back in and the impact on our business. It seems if ken get sback in, we are going to consider fooking off out of London for good. Which just goes to show the depth of our feeling

Martin; read this: http://devilskitchen.me.uk/2008/05/g...ng-genius.html then understand what a complete nightmare we now face.

There are many, many more things to comment on but this legacy is going to haunt us for some time to come.

Unfortunately what will happen is that the next (non_labour) Govt will have to fix all these problems which will cause greater hardship for us all. Then once things are sorted we'll have all forgotten what a complete nightmare now is and vote the idiot Labour dingbats back in again!

The Blog link doesn't work, is this where you get your news from?

What is the complete nightmare you refer to, if you mean the economic downturn then yes it's likely to be painful for a while.

As for the conservatives having to fix the nightmare, well there's unlikely to be a general election for 2 years, so by then we should be out the other side of it (bloody hope so anyway).

You forget (conveniently I suspect) the 'nightmare' in our public services the Labour government inherited from the Tories in 97, and a pretty good economic record for 10 years, which is at least worth a mention surely?
