Go a step on from the police. They are merely doing the bidding of their masters. Which believe it or not are supposed to be us. Write to your MP. DEMAND ACTION. Write again.
Read the ouput from your local magistrates court. Law abiding is a dying trend. Criminals of all sorts are laughing at not only the law, but especially those who try to enforce it.
The blame lies entirely with the greed and duplicity of the legal profession. And that includes motoring offences. There are people living in huge houses earning pots of cash driving huge cars from perpetuating this system. They don't want proper punishment as it will stall the gravy train.
Put yourself in the place of a police officer catching the same to55pots time and again but being powerless as when it comes to court the word of this detritus is considered to be as valid (usually more it seems) as that of the officer. And their brifes know all the get outs, eg I was in the car but not the driver. It is the world of Bart "Nobody can prove it" Simpson.
You'd give up too and naff off to Skipton.
AND THE CRIMINALS KNOW IT AT EVERY AGE.
"Leave me alone I 'avent dun nuffink". You try and prove different.

Now this is not what I would suggest happen in ANY accident, just one where you believe the safety of yourself, your passengers or you car are about to be compromised.
As long as you drive straight to the local police station (after making sure you have ALL the details required: location, time/date, other car, possible witnesses, desc of other driver), make a report at the counter (don't leave until its been reported) and take a note of the name of the reporting officer.
Now assuming you've driven off, the other driver will also report the accident. The two reports can then be married up and forwarded to the respective insurance companies.
All I stress is make sure that the reporting officer is made aware of the fear you had of the area you were in and the actions of the other driver.
Any problems, then email me: steve@hirsty.co.uk

I had the same happen to me. Car got nicked from Railway carpark on camera - Not interested.
My mate spots car outside some guys house 2 months later next to identical car with all my bits on. I got to Police, then sit opposite car and wait. Police turn up, walk round car taking notes and then drive off. Get a phone call next morning fom british transport police "good news sir - we've found you car. Now go and collect it".
Couldn't even get car as engine missing as well as other stuff.
Next thing I'm getting a letter charging me for the removal of car and no tax! I wrote a "f!ck off" type letter back and heard no more. As far as the car, my mates thankfully prevented me from going out on that night and torching both mine and his (with my engine in) outside his house. I would've gone down for that without doubt.
Not blaming any individuals. Policemen and women must have a very difficult job and theres not much they can do. Law is law.
That doesn't change the fact that the police as a protective force is f*cking useless. If I ruled the world I would do so with an iron fist and a guitar.
I am sure that 90% of the people in the country are good and honest folk. I am sure that if we got rid of the benefits system we would also rid the country of a lot of scum who would be forced to go out and work. Unfortunately we would at the same time be disguarding those unfortunate enough to rely genuinly on benefits.
You can't friggin win.
Maybe one day everyone will recognise right from wrong and will have high morals.

Last year I arranged for all our company car drivers to have a 1/2 day instruction on Defensive Driving techniques. The main theme was to manage the space around you, both in front (as in BuRR's comment) but also behind.
It is true that drivers of automatic cars are something like 50% less likely to get hit from behind. And why ? because they use there brakes much sooner when pulling up and keep there foot on the brake peddle once stopped - this means that they have their brake lights on and therefore drastically reduce the chance of being hit.
Now, I'm not suggesting that we all trade up(?) to automatics, but with practice, you can get used to covering your brake peddle much more whan approaching a junction. On the course, we developed this and also practiced avoiding stopping altogether by approaching red lights at very slow speeds.
You may think that if someone is going to have a go at hijacking they will bump you anyway - they probably will. But, if you are practicing the above, at least you'll know it is happening before jumping out of the car and putting yourself in further danger.
I know this doesn't add to the pleasure of driving, but when you are in town/city centre it could save you from injury or worse.
By the way, in the year before we had the training, 6 drivers stacked up £33,000 worth of insurance claims (8 claims in total). In the year after having it we didn't have a single claim

Sorry to hear that.
My GF works near the centre of Bradford, infact I picked her up from work last nite.
FYI My GF's boss has a Volvo 440 and that got car jacked about 2 months ago, its not just sports/fast cars they are after.

Has anybody got any advice on how to handle this situation ? I'm thinking of carrying a disposable camera in the glove box.
I'm sorry to say but this is a harsh reality of life. I've already had to turn vigilante on more than one occassion because the police (no offense Burr) could not and will not help me in dealing with recovering my stuff from a burglar. Hell I almost got charged for GBH when I took my stuff back forcefully. Not to mention thousands of pounds worth of damaged property during their retaliation. What did the police do? Fined me because my fog lights were on. Oh well thats life I guess....

hi Burr, Not having a dig at the feds in general. One of my mates is a traffic cop.
Just cannot understand the attitude taken in the two cases I mentioned. Cops just were not interested in the least even when it seemed to be on a plate and not just one off toerags making mischief. Flatmate and I were gonna pay the second case a visit when my lass left the flat and town it took place in but once several months slip by you lose the pent up rage so couldn't be @rsed! :-)
Appreciate its not the easiest of jobs and you don't make the decisions but whoever does is c0cking up big time as we all know.
Be careful out there
Regards

If Im going down I am going to take the bast*rds with me,assuming I get back in it a tonne and a half of Volvo versus 4 dude's, sod it, I would rather smash my car up against personally against them, I may get lucky and splatter a couple of them.
Stupid attitude, yes, probably. Leave me alone and I am lovely, p*ss me off and I get a bit unstable !

lol @ Mark, I think you speak for most car/bike lovers! If I found someone trying to nick my bike I would stop at nothing to prevent it from being taken! Again stupid attitude but like u say, red mist and there goes the mr stable mentality, mind u many would say i'm not that stable anyway!!! ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
As far as I'm concerned, the w@nkers ask for it if they nick stuff!

Sorry m8, hope your ok.
Question?? would it be a good idea if we had some sort of league table showing the current 'hot spots' so we could be extra vigilent when entering an area?
as to the use of baseball bats etc... dont do it, i always have (for security reasons) a nice steering wheel lock, this would work (not that i would) as very tasty weapon. baseball bats would be seen as premeditated.

i have to agree wholeheartedly with BuRR here! And agree that the only way people will understand how much work we actually do do is to go out with a local patrol and experience it first hand. Only then will people understand the limitations and frustrations that we have to deal with day in day out. With the rising crime levels and Police cutbacks, it just is not possible Police how we should do, but I think most people would be surprised at the amount we acheive!

Shocked and saddened to hear about this.
interesting comments from BuRR, which are vaild as he's a copper, and from the sounds of it a good un!
As said, one bad apple, and all that.
From reading and seeing news on TV Leeds is a powerkeg at the moment, and other places are like this as well.
agree with BuRR's views on, how are these people poor and unemployed when they have all the designer gear, and can smoke and drink to their hearts contents, well, their crooked that's how, plain and simple, it's proving it and doing something about it that's the problem.
anyway, this thread's not about moral decline and race problems, we can start a powerkeg of a thread for that sometime else.
back to the issue in hand.
Glad you are ok, sad the car is not.
I'm going to start leaving a gap in front of me now. and change the alarm so it autolocks the doors after engine start.
One question for you BuRR, if you can answer it. Let's say someone else was in this position again and got into thier car, and 'raced' away from the scence to 'get safe' let's say the police pull you over for speeding, how likely would they be to belive you'd got away from the situation you were in, rather than you just hooning around in your performance car? daft I know, so feel free to ignore this.

Well - that one goes down to:
1) How convincing you are (getting the details of the rogue car would help I suppose)
2) WHO pulls you, and how receptive they are to your story
3) Potential witnesses.
Can't answer your question, unfortunately. Too many wild factors o consider.

Glad your ok M8. Sorry about the car though.
It seem tempers are fraying, lets keep it down. Thing's aint much better down here, the local rag is full of car related crime every week.
My missus had all her centre caps (Clio16v) nicked, she was totally pi$$ed off. Funny how a local ******, suddenly had a set on his R5GTT the day after. After a bit of detective work, I went round to his parents house. Little **** admitted it, I gave him an ultimatum, give em back or eat hospital food for 6months through a straw

good luck

Jason,
Just to reiterate a lot of the comments already made, bad luck mate.
But at least you are in one piece.
Another aquaintence of mine was attacked whilst parked up in his Impreza Turbo recently, battered and dragged out of his car, by 3 balaclava wearing lads. Iron bars, monkey wrench etc
The Police caught the 19 year olds responsible the following day.
That was the 2nd incident that has happened to friends within Oldham over the last few months.
Like your incident, it leaves a very unpleasant taste for the victim, but also for friends and associates who can be just as upset about the events.
Hope you get the car sorted.
Then when you get it back on the road get a highly visible Karate club/ boxing club etc type sticker or similar for the back window.
There was an article in one of the newspapers recently where a chap who had been burgled 4 times, hasn't been touched since he put two karate trophies in the front window.
Cheers MTR
