Well unless you have a smaller tank than mine (which I doubt), then ~15mpg is what the quarter line roughly works out at. It may be 10% out at worst which is still only 16-17mpg. If you really haven't been giving it the beans and not sitting at 5k rpm in third rather than changing into 5th....then my guess is something is not quite right. That mpg is 'hammering it about' kind of consumption in a standard WRX. Worth getting it serviced with Subaru/specialist and getting them to check the fuel mixture??? You are gonna be spending more on fuel if there's a problem like that so you may as well get it looked at sooner rather than later.
As far as telling the wife....definitely tell her to stay below 3k rpm or better still, make her drive something else/get the bus/taxi, etc

The wife - originally banned me from getting a scooby, but she has a clio and now i cant get her to take her own!!!! I think it was ever since she 'accidentally' (so she claims) beat an m3 to 60 on a wet road...
Ill keep you all updated with what subaru find...

Yeah, its going in for a service at local Subaru garage next month, costing £500, which is fine, i expected that one. Will see if it makes any difference, phoned them today and they said they will have a look to see if they can find anything!

Welll.... its an import and 'apparently' should be serviced every 6k according to the service book. Last service was 20k and that was 10k ago. I think it was about £460 for the service and £40 to have a look into the fuel issue? Sound about right?

No difference - it should be every 10k. They don't put different engines in to go to Malta or wherever.
Big service at my local dealer (that's the plugs and all fluids service) was £350 + VAT cambelt was £300+VAT so a lot less than you are being asked for. I'd find out what they actually want to do to it and what you are getting for your money.

30k service on UK car is £460 from main stealer. But that is also 3yrs. 40k/4th year is £230. As for the £40...how do they justify that? That is less than 30mins labour for Subaru. As far as I am concerned, they should check for free as part of a service. rectifying may cost money, or if they find it needs hours to identify (unlikely for this issue), so I would be telling them so. Or use a diff dealer/specialist.
