On the other side of the coin I will be getting a new submersible pump for my pond. I'll be getting something called an Aquamax made in Germany. This will have a 3 year guarantee + an extra 2 years if you register when you buy it. So a 5 year Warranty for something that will be working 24 hours a day and no servicing required. That seems like quality, built to last, manufacturing to me

Worth pointing out that if you think you have been sold duff goods, that the Sales of Goods act states that good must be servicebale 6 years after purcahse. What this means, effectively, is that if you can prove that what you bought was inherently unable to last 6 years, then you can have a replacement.
Get in touch with the PFT and they are only to happy to help.

Sadly, my dad suffered from a heart failure and died right in the middle of this 6+month long debacle so it was never fully pursued. As obviously, more important matters took precedence.
Did get £250 though; which is a joke, but still better than nothing.
The case was taken up by the Financial Ombusdman against Homeserve (the insurer) but dropped as we couldn't actively pursue it any further. Whether it was fair to say Homeserve were to blame for Glow-worm's alledged poor quality and Heatcall's alledged failure of its contractors to maintain the boiler (they failed to notice and report condensate leakage during annual servicing) is open for debate. But at the time, the methods in how it handled the case were set out to be very awkward and obstructive to the consumer who had an issue with them. Which certainly is something that the ombudsman should have made them answerable for.
