Swearing at someone is still considered common assualt under UK law, so if he is doing it in front of witnesses and you get no joy from your company, you could always try that, as long as you don't swear back at him........

I have had this, one "Supervisor" was on the phone and whoever it was asked was there and he called me "This as F*ck", along with a few other things he said and did he peed me off and I had been nothing other than courteous and pleasant.
He did it again so I asked him to perhaps not talk to me like that, it carried on so I collared him on his own and said it has to stop otherwise I was going to ask him to take it into the car-park, initally there was bravado and laughter, he realised I was serious and the f*cker burst into tears, apologized and gave me his life story, apparently he was overweight (about 20 stone), well in debt, lived at home with his mum and dad at nearly 30 and couldnt get a bird.
I told him to go to the doctors, he did and got some Prozac, he solved the woman problem by going to Amsterdam (quick fix I suppose), he was a different bloke, the ultimate irony was I sold him my sh1tty old Golf.

The simple answer is no. Either close the door and tell him straight right there and then, or use the multitude of workplace laws to do it the other way.
The way I look at it, no one, and I mean no one will ever talk to me in a manner I would not accept in ANY other situation.
These people are weak in every respect. I deal with over 300 employees and have never had to resort to such crass language to get the job done.
Tale: Boardroom meeting 15 years ago. Me and my team at that time, only 8 of us.
New gaffer trying to play the hard man. Telling us how he came from the shop floor, blah, blah, in the days when they used to take you out the back to 'sort things out', yawn. Told me I was 'talking utter bollocks'. So I took him to task and asked him to define 'bollocks'. Eventually after watching the goon roll up his sleeves in front of me and my team and with his face beetroot red start screaming at me across the table I simply asked my team to leave. Which we all did and all headed to the local pub![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
So after we walked out and with a few letters and phone calls later to personnel his **** was hanging by a burning thread. He soon phoned up, groveling with all his 'personal problems', but I asked for a full written apology to every member of the team (plus loads of other stuff I'd already asked for at the meeting which he had rejected
). Sorted.
Years later when he retired he visited our office and then sent a letter telling me how he had learnt a valuable lesson that he'd never forgotten. Respect to him for doing this.
Never, ever let anyone **** on your parade

he cant talk to u like that but like has been said before if u complain watch your back. i had a discussion with my one of my managersjust beasically how i thought we could improve and the measures he implemented just covered up the problems, this was a face to face 1 to 1 meeting and after that i was hounded until i had to leave.
topped it off when i ended up in a ruck last week with the new ops manager at my old place and one of his staff after he said i was slagging him off when i worked there, even though i had never met him or spoke to him ???? seems my name has been rubbished and blacklisted after 9 years of hard work with no problems whatsoever and all this from a very big PLC Company

I am a Director & wouldnt speak to my staff like that. There is a time & a place for such actions.
I bought all the staff a chinese yesterday, although making record profits usually helps![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Speak to your HR dept or your managers superior if you feel you arent getting anywhere, theres nothing worse than a member of staff doing this to his manager.
Good Luck![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
