I have asked my brother in law to bag a few as he can just shoot from his window, I will then do the skinning.
I think the quality of the air rifle is more important than the calibre, the smaller pellet gives the 0.177 a higher speed from the gun but the heavier 0.22 has more 'punch' when it hits the target. I actually have an Air Arms 0.22 springer but I mostly use the shotguns or the 0.22 rimfire.
If I was going for another air rifle I would go for a gas-charged 0.22 with a pellet magazine for the following reasons:
a) the spring rifles are always heavier than the gas ones
b) if you miss or don't incapacitate with the first shot, it's too slow and noisy re-loading a springer so you often don't get a second shot
c) the magazine you can have with many gas rifles means you can get off a second shot quietly and quickly often without taking your eye away from the scope
d) the gas rifles have much less recoil than the springers so are more consistent. You often find that the springer you sighted in resting on your knee will be off-centre if you use it lying down

Always get an air rifle that will take a silencer. The gas rifles are very noisy without.
The springers do have a few benefits. The power is consistent each shot whereas the gas rifles will tail off as the pressure in the tank nears empty. They are also cheaper and you know you can put it away and take it out months later and use it straightaway, the gas rifle needs all the gas-charging kit as well or you have to go to a gunshop when it runs out for charging. And lastly if you're naughty then it's very easy to get more power with a spring change to say 16psi. A gas rifle has the potential to give much more power (you'll get less shots/charge of course) but tweaking them requires specialist kit/knowledge and technically if you do this or want to buy one new with more power then you require a firearms certificate so you might as well get a real rifle.
