Should CS (Counter Strike) Threads Be Allowed In This Forum? Discuss
#31
seriously chris
i will look into Yahoo Groups.
i still want to you request formally a Computer Gaming Forum for Scoobynet. I am not requesting a CS Forum......CS is currently the game of the moment but others are coming along with a few threads.........
what is the bottom line if we keep posting wot could be considered by some people to be to many CS threads ? (and a new forum is not setup?)
oh and yes each Session / CS Topic needs its own thread for the reasons you state.....
ie once a thread drops off page 1 its not necessarily seen again ! and each booking has differing attendees which are tracked in the appropriate thread.
wot is SDB's view ? no one has ever said there is a limit to the number of threads you can post etc on a particular topic.
as has been said by me last nite when we chatted and echoed by most the guys who have posted today :
we're in the rite forum
we're not posting rude / offensive material
we're not forcing anyone to read the threads
its quite easy to go to page 2 (a belief that a thread is dead on page 2 hardly constitutes a reason for anyone to try to curtail us using the rite forum blah blah etc etc does it ?)
i am sincerely hoping SDB will allow us a Computer Gaming forum as i think we've proved that it would be well used and help keep gaming issues apart from the technical computer ones.
no doubt talk to you later m8

I disagree Chris. I think you'll find that a vast majority of Computer Related Forum users are either Counterstrike platers or aspire to do so.
I should start a complaint about the excess amount of Subaru related threads in the General Forum

Steve, just downloaded the new bbs software, will have the bbs up by tonight ready for use. It will however be blue! I will customise it over time but this will not affect the workings of it in anyway.
Therefore if I start at 5.30 the bbs (NOT THE WEBSITE) should be up by 8.30 for us all to use.

I feel a tad sorry for chrisb and sdb here as there no option thats coing to satisfy all parties.
Personally i dont really want to start see the threads split up even more as it already takes me ages to drill down when picking up new posts etc, alternatively when over 40% of my opening screen of computer related is on counter strike also makes you wonder if you should bother checking in it.
So i think chrisb has made a fairly sensible suggestion in using yahoo or msn mailing groups. Perhaps we could have a locked thread at the top (like members gallery) where chrisb can put links to which ever mailing lists are decided to be used etc.
Shame the same can't be said of the general section though, which in recent months seems to have turned into a newbies area to post anything and everything!
I disagree with the comment that the majority of computer related posters are cs players (or are aspiring to be), in fact i dont personally know anyone that plays it from the 10-15 scoobynetters i know that contribute to this area.

pt : a gaming forum surely would make sense ? and a relevant split between gaming and other pc issues....hardware etc ?
of course you should check it......hit the damn 2 button ! its not that difficult
a locked thread is also a possibility.
yep i agree re:General.

I don't play CS, but couldn't help notice this thread and stick my nose in it
Chris, did you ever consider having "sub" forums ? You click on Computer related, and you have general/games/help/hardware (or whatever, you get the idea)
Just a thought, maybe you would have to discuss with SDB (who is a bit busy at the moment), but I think Simon wants people to stay on this forum first of all, so if a few subsections could solve it, it would be nice, and it wouldn't be in the way of other people that are not interested. And it would also avoid having 15 pages of forums.
It's all about making categories for posts isn't it ? People who would not be interested in CS would easily avoid the posts, and people who do have to click one more time to only see the posts they are interested in.
Anyway, just a thought.

If you dont like CS or the Muppets Rember this.
When SDB goes of to sell advertising space just think about all those user sessions that the above generates. Traffic sells space and selling space means that Scoobynet stays viable.
But if you want there are any number of free hosted BBS that you can set up, like the one on my site my.genie.co.uk/dedwards you can make your own topics or bring in ones from other people to make shared communities.
Othewise buy an MG, I bet thier bbs is dryer than a dry thing.

I've gotta go and see a customer so not much time. Work ey?
If you set-up a CS site or YG, then that's The majority of CS traffic can be self contained but you'll still be more than welcome to put CS threads for newbies etc. I haven't said clear off and don't come back. It's not for me to say that. Simon has the final say on what goes.
I read page 2 and beyond if I've been away and have time. It's just my personal obversation from reading several BBS (Evo, ArsTechnica etc) that many readers don't go beyond page 2.
Theo, no idea if the software can do that TBH.
I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't.

"I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't."
Simply suggest to those that have complained they go away and find something more important to complain about and then remind the nasty C/S people (Thats us) that clogging up an entire first page with many C/S threads is a little anti-social. Any signs of muppet behaviour (e.g. "Cornering") should be dealt with extremely harshly (flogging probably good).
Its sort of like a pub with a darts team - its nice for part of the pub to enjoy a team game () but not to get so over excited and rowdy in the corner that its to the detriment of the others in the pub
I'm sure life in Computer Related will soon calm down

I don't play CS (yet) but I have no objection to CS threads in 'Computer Related' as a lot of the guys playing CS are very knowledgeable re IT and are able to help on other general IT subjects:
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=68445
For instance, I've only learnt how to do that by looking in these threads!!!!
The great thing about ScoobyNet is it's a meeting place for people with a common interest, and not unexpectedly, those common interests spill over into other common interests - you don't see people wanting to ban threads on PS2, DVD Players and Evo7s do you?
If the worst comes to the worst, why not set up a separate gaming Forum? Then all the PS2, Medal of Honour adn Counterstike stuff can go in there...

The topic heading is somewhat misleading. No-one debates that fact that CS should be 'allowed' in this BBS, it was more that fact that it was so popular that maybe it warranted its own section, or an additional gaming section at least
