Well there must have been something wrong with it. It was mapped on a Power FC and was running 279bhp so not silly power. Injectors were probably leaking or something. Couldn't be bothered with it anymore, and to be honest I don't really miss it much. I do love imprezas, the sound, acceleration etc, but I've been there done that now. My mortgage is my priority now, rather than paying for fuel.

If fuel charges stay high it's not just the fuel that hits your car but every service that uses transport will eventually have to increase prices. That then means every other service that may not directly use transport but use people that do also get hit.

So basically every thing will go up......... The increase VED just adds more pain to the cost. So at some point because of the overall cost most people will have to think is the car worth it.

I have been travelling on average no more than about 50 - 100 miles a week for the last 2 - 3 years (since Ive had the scoob) and thats to and from work as well. So a full tank can last in some cases several weeks. So at the moment not as affected but in a few months may be working a lot further away.

I recently did a trip to cardiff and back and got c300 miles from a full tank and thats a car with 360bhp (see profile) I was impressed.

I bought a Seat Leon FR (diesel) a couple of weeks back and so my Scoob is for sale:

https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...0-reduced.html

One of the main reasons is I lost my fuel card at work however am also being offered more money for my car allowance by getting a 'greener' car. Bit of a no brainer really..

Not me, I'm keeping my scoob!

It may become more of a weekend toy soon though.

Have two mates who have/are selling, though one of them has RB5 and RB320, the 5 has gone and been replaced with a Citreon C2 ( IMO)

10,000 miles a year (I only actually do 5k)
My car will give 200 miles to a 50 litre tank with a mix of m/way and town
10,000 miles = 50 tanks = 2500 litres
2500 litres @ £0.80 a litre = £2000 a year
2500 litres @ £1.00 a litre = £2500 a year
2500 litres @ £1.30 a litre = £3250 a year

It was 5 years ago that the 80p litre existed so thats an increased fuel cost of £1250 since 2003. Looking, more realistically, at the recent £1 to £1.30 increase gives an increase of £750 on your yearly fuel bill.
If £750 a year is enough to make you think twice about ownership then you bought /are thinking about buying the wrong car. These are expensive cars to own generally. If you take into account servicing, tyres, insurance, depreciation etc. I'd say fuel costs were the least of your worries.

I know I wouldn't sell mine because of the fuel costs but perhaps I'm in the minority

Don't even get me started about the insignificance of the road tax increase....
I totally agree. Buying a £24k Golf dielsel is going to save the original poster a bit of pocket money on fuel costs each year but it is going to take a hell of a long time to claw back the money spent in changing to a more expensive car in the first place.

If he wants to save some dosh he should go for a poverty spec, low insurance group, small engined, second hand car and drive it like a snail.

I sold my baby a couple of months ago - changed jobs and went from a weekly commute of 40 miles to 400! No brainer really. I bought an '04 320d with all the toys for over £2000 less than I sold the scoob.

Guess where the £2000 is? Nicely sitting in the bank and being slowly topped up while I find the cheap classic that I'm after.

I bought my scoob to scratch an itch, I was planning on keeping it for 18months- 2years but i'm tempted to let it go sooner. I already have a 2nd car so I won't be keeping it for the weekends.

I picked it up on new years eve so I've only had it for 5 months but doing 250+ miles a week is starting to take the **** when it comes to buying fuel, I do a lot of town driving and it gets driven hard at every possible oppertunity so the MPG is no where near the claimed amount.

My next car will undoubtidly be a diesel, after moving an audi A3 S line about in the car park the other day I'm quite tempted with one of them, a proper test drive will reveal all but the interior was a lot better than the scoob.

I'm gutted with how things have turned out with the scoob, i knew it would be expensive but I wasn't quite bargaining on being this bad.

i'll be buggered if i'll let some money grabbing government tax me and my enjoyment off the road!
i don't do many miles so the petrol is more a pain in the **** than crippling. the VED thing is a disgrace but we'll all moan then take it on the chin.

BUT *cringe* i am having thoughts of selling after the summer so a boring, economical car may be on the horizon after all

I do around 20k per year in mine and they are nearly all on expenses.
Problem is now that as soon as I go down to the 25p per mile rate its costing me to put petrol in it.

I've decided that I'm going to take mine off the road and buy a Suzuki Swift (Old Style) just for going to work in ( I work 100 miles from home btw )

Had one of them before I bought the scooby so not bothered about the image, comfy seats as standard - fit a radio to drown out the noise and 60mpg++ here we come. Can pick one a low miler up for less than a grand and I'll save that in no time.

The scoobys gonna be turned into a track car. Also gonna try and make it the fastest wagon in the west

I seriously thought about selling the Scoob a few months back, went as far as booking an appointment at the local Carcraft to test drive an Astra 1.9 CDTi SRi.

Went in, the sales guy took me to look at the car (1 year old, 16k only) took a quick glance at it and the front had more stonechips than my 5 year old Scoob, "are these ex hire cars" I asked him, "hmm we get them in fom all over mate" was the reply..

Needless to say, promptly left without even bothering to test drive the thing..

As I pulled onto the motorway on the way home and felt the satisfying shove as the boost kicked in I thought fcuck that I'm keeping my Scooby

Found myself in the VW dealership on Sunday looking at Golf GT Sports. Wasn't planning on changing my car till next year, but the sooner may be better if petrol prices keep going upwards. The higher they are the less trade-in value you'll get as the dealer will struggle to shift a thirsty car.

Was planning on getting a new Focus RS next year, but if petrol gets close to £2/litre, I don't think I can justify getting one.

I use my sports cars for the weekend only but I couldn't care less if it was 3 quid or 3 Euros a litre I wouldn't get rid of them. Don't let them win!

Specced up a 5 door Golf GT Sport TDI 170 DSG. £24,210
If you do the maths with what you'll pay for the VW and what you'll lose on the scoob you'll never make it back in petrol saving

That quote is not my original post anyway.

What I was getting at was, When I come to replace my Scooby I'm considering getting a Diesel instead of my previous options.

Focus RS
Audi S3
Golf R36
Evo X

All are considerably more money than a specced up Golf TDI. So, not only would I be saving money on the initial purchase price, but running/insurance/tax/consumables would all be less with the Golf TDI.

I was also getting at the point that I wasn't planning on changing cars until next year (when the Focus & R36 are out) but due to increasing fuel costs, it might be worth while changing now. For 2 reasons

1) Cheaper running costs
2) If fuel prices keep going up (could hit £2/litre) then it would be difficult to sell/trade in my Scooby as at £2/litre the dealer would struggle to sell it on. Thus saving myself a possible hit (Thousands) in trade-in value.

I wouldn't consider getting rid of any of my 2 Impreza's.
Life's too short for regrets.

But looking at Pistonheads earlier, there's quite a few bargains from desperate owners. So always on the look out for something a bit different at a good price.
Currently keeping an eye on a Hawkeye Spec C-ra that might be coming up for sale soon.

What I do need to do, is get my wife to change her company Audi Q7 TDi S-Line for the Q7 4.2 petrol version.
Then I can skim her petrol card again.

I must admit it has crossed my mind about selling up but seeing as I just use it for fun and not commuting , its staying put.
Ill just have to drive a little less.
darling and brown can go and f**k themselves if they think everyone is going to be driving 1.0 litre eco friendly pieces of crap.

I can't believe how many peeps use a Scooby for work(unless they are 5miles or less away)
I just bought my first Scoob....LOVE IT! I drive a 98" Punto 60S to work and around town....the Scoob is my baby and its gonna stay my baby whatever happens....stuff the government....they aren't gonna stop my passion for cars!
Yeah, its expensive and getting worse but its still worth it because everything is getting more expensive!

I do 100 miles ragging my g/fs golf 1.6 16v around Peak District and it costs me £17.10 (30mpg@£1.14per/l)
I do 100 miles ragging my WRX around Peak District and it costs £33.08 (17mpg@£1.26per/l)
I do 100 miles ragging my Punto around Peak District (if it survives ) and it costs £ 15.08 (34mpg@£1.14per/l)
£16 more than golf for 10 times the fun and excitement!
£18 more than the Punto for 15 times the fun and excitement!

I mean...yeah...ofcourse I'd prefer cheaper tax and fuel and they are ****** for raping us like they are doing...but...when you compare cars...my Scooby is still worth the money!!!

Tax on the Golf next year is about £250 ish?
Tax on the Scoob next year is about £400 ish?
Tax on the Punto next year is about £150 ish?

Golf 0-60 10.8 and handles like a cow on ecstacy!
Scooby 0-60 5.8? and handles like a dream!
Punto 0-60 14sec and handles better than the Golf! (Especially on three wheels! )

Which is best value for money?

I mean...like my dad always says...."Horses for Courses!"

The sense of speed is incredible, where as the scoob really needs to be pushed to make it feel exciting. It was roling roaded at 48bhp but it weighs next to **** all. I've got plans to increase it to 80-90 but I'm in no rush to get the work done. It's given a scooby a run its money before, it wasn't till we hit a duel carriage way that he could pull away.

I swear it puts out more emmisions than the scoob though, I started it up and left it running for a few minutes by my garage door, it didn't take long for loads of nasty black stuff to be stuck to the door.

It will be a sad day for me if I ever have to sell
