So if running costs were sensible(read cheaper) all the 2nd car drivers would use their scoobies..yes or no?
I know which car I would prefer to drive that's why I bought one,and I've found the mpg nowhere near as bad as I expected...

There is no doubt about it the fuel issues are only going to get worse, thats why I have moved away from an Evo RS11, which when driven hard did less than 10mpg and least with my (2007) WRX I get high teen's...

My WRX came my way for £9000 less than the original purchase price, 11 months old and as new. Great value.

I run a TDI van that is my son's Kart Team transport and I am happy to use that during the week/leave in carparks etc etc... Keeps the Scoob for weekend fun.

I think running a second car is deffo worth considering.

My other half's 4x4 (which is business leased) is up in a few months, and I am at total loss as to what we get to replace it (Civic Type R's are now only £200 pm to lease! Tempting...)

Maybe a small town car but then space is an issue.... And poor performance!

I agree with the sentiments of others that have posted that life is too short to worry about escalating fuel costs (if you can afford to).
As I only drive 20 miles a day total to work and back I'm not bothered about poor fuel economy. It's true that if I had a smaller car with a small engine I'd be saving on tax, insurance and fuel costs. But the money I would be saving would be burning a hole in my pocket and the only thing I'd want to spend it on would be my Subaru. So it's here to stay until the day comes I cannot physically afford to run it.

Well....yes 'urdad'...I would rather drive the Scoob EVERYDAY if the running costs were cheap enough...but...it also depends what kind of job you have aswell.
I drive around and park in Stoke-on-Trent all week and I wouldn't like to leave my baby hnging around in SOME of the areas that I go to!
But....as far as the situation goes...things don't look like they are gonna get better(cheaper) so, my baby is only coming out for fun!

Oh...and some little Twoccing gits broke into my Punto last weekend....I went to the Scooby Shootout in the Punto cos the Scoob was booked in for a Cambelt service and I didn't want to tempt fate.
Parked it in Stockport on Bridgehall Estate(where the nephew lives) and they bent back the door and smashed he window......and they stole.....

Atleast the Scoob was tucked up safe and sound at home...don't think I would have got a new window for the Scoob for £20!!!LOL!

I could almost happily swap to the boxer diesel but they don't bring the sedan into the UK - we only get the estate version which I don't want. It's got to be a daily driver and I don't want the hassle of squeezing something that big into the works car park. It'd be good for going on holiday and getting the gear in but it's oversized for the rest of the year when there's generally only me in it.

Fuel-wise, I'm currently running an 05 STi PPP so am used to 21mpg but the price hikes are a ****-take. Also, it's the VED that's the the literal highway robbery if they bung it up to the stupid figures as mentioned. All this about doing us a favour by postponing it is a smack in the face as they'll still do it at some point and laugh all the away to the treasury. Oil pries are a lame excuse to justify what they're doing when you take into account tax and VAT on fuel. How about doing away with VED and putting a sensible amount on fuel so it's pay as you drive - a lot fairer for the low mileage / more efficient vehicles and those that want to use lots of juice get charged for it. Unfortunately, the cynic in me says that the "small" increase in fuel costs will be wangled into another "screw the motorist" racket.

What's swinging me away from the a new STi (even though I like the look) is the general paranoia I have on going anywhere "unknown" and leaving it. I'm also getting peeved about how mine currently attracts all the d1ckhead drivers when you just want to mind your own business and arrive somewhere without some bright spark attempting to take you out / race / prove their weiner size / eye you up for a hijack etc.

yes, selling mine, zero interest though. nobody is buying them, wonder why . only ones selling seem to be the cheap cr*p at circa 2 grand or the rare and desirable models, ie p1's with wr packs, wr1's etc. my classic is probably the best example out there, ie unabused very low miles bodywork like new etc but does anyone want to buy it?? no. total joke.

At the moment, no. I had a brush with selling it last winter when I was unemployed for a while, but now I'm back in employment, we have a second (diesel) car, it's too old to worry about depreciation and I still love owning it. Why sell?
