Code? Moi? Applescript I can handle, even a bit of AppleScript Studio via Xcode, but proper coding, alas it is a bit beyond me, however, a good friend of mine might well create the odd iPhone app.

As for your list:
2: To Do list - I know Mail.app in Leopard has a To Do list function, so it might be that the new mail app has this as well, does make sense if you integrate it with MobileMe. Also, I think there may be To do functionality in iCal/Calendar. Of course this means using an app that isn't just a ToDo list, so I'll let you off![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
5: A very good idea. We know it integrates tracking using google maps, and it'll allow for route planning, so what else would be needed? Voice prompting? I know you can create overlays for google maps (I use one that displays the Toronto transit routes over the google map) so an overlay for, ooh, I dunno, speed camera locations perhaps, could be doable.
I'd actually like to be able to use Garmin BlueChart Marine maps on the iPhone, even though I do have a dedicated Garmin GPS handheld.

Back to your list.
It's quite possible world+dog is already working on the ToDo list and travel expenses apps. When the store goes live we'll have a better idea of what is/is not there.
MMS - You'd need access to the telephony API's to do this and they are not being made available to developers. It would not surprise me if the next upgrade to the iPhone software included MMS in it.

Not that, my brother and quite a few other suckers i know have bought an N95 to find they can't get a lock on any satellites no matter how long they give it.

Ah, so more a hardware thing then, that's not good. I think I'll take my GPS with me when I go and have a look at the 3G and compare the GPS reception between them. Hmm, that'd be a nice app, display the satellites it's found and where they are, similar to what the Garmin GPS does.

Thats for your replies Markus.
To Do lists within Calender/mail would be just fine for me. Infact, I think I'd prefer that.
I'm sure Apple must be working on that and MMS. Didn't realise there was no telephony access in the SDK.
As for Sat Nav - I heard it was poor - at least onthe original N95's. iPhone has A-GPS. Assisted GPS uses Wi-Fi and Network towers to assist the GPS signal and help find the satellites quicker. Its all on Wikipedia![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Really looking forward to the App Store. IMO its going to be great and one of the nest featires of Version 2 software.

Markus, I've thought of an app that you or your coding mate might want to try.
Seeing as the iPhone is now a Phone, iPod, Internet Browser, Camera, Sat Nav & Games Console - I wondered what else it might become, and wondered about a universal remote control.
Looking at the tech specs, I see no IR support, but Bluetooth is a yes and the PS3 uses bluetooth - so any chance of an app to use the iPhone to control Blu-Ray operations on the PS3?

Unless it's changed from the 1st Gen, the iPhone simply does not support BT data transfer
It only has support for (non-stereo) headsets and hands free car kits. I would guess the BT API's will not be accessible to devs, or it's lower/higher than that and the phone would need something else on it to allow this. I've not seen a hack to allow this as yet, so am guessing it'd be very difficult to do.

RemoteBuddy has an iPhone/Touch remote of storts - but it only controls Macs.
It's going to be great for my Media Mac though. RemoteBuddy installs a AJ webserver and allows the iPhone to connect using AJAX stuff (Via Safari).
SO I can control iTunes/Frontrow/EyeTV and lots of other apps. I can even use the iPhone as a keyboard/trackpad.
Doesn't help you and your PS3 though

Classic ='s Old we all know that. Reading up on the 'newage' iPhone if I had the original I'd be in no rush to upgrade it. The only thing that I'd want is the GPS but they should have made it possible to sync the v1 iPhone with a BT GPS unit.

Exactly, I'm in no rush, the original is an amazing phone. The 'newage' is just better enough to make me go through the hassle of selling my old one to fully fund the new. Wish that was the same with the Subaru.

In regards to the actual guts of the iPhone, I did find the following info:
[/i]- Infineon PMB6952 / S-GOLD3 six-band UMTS / HSDPA transceiver
- Murata LMRX3JCA-479 tri-band amplifier (we're assuming for the 3G)
- Sony SP9T - antenna Switch for GSM / UMTS dual mode
- ARM 1176JZF-S - Main CPU (same as in 1st gen iPhone)
- Skyworks 77427 - UMTS / HSDPA tx 1900, rx 2100MHz
- Skyworks 77414 - UMTS / HSDPA 1900
- Skyworks 77413 - UMTS / HSDPA 850MHz
- Internal build model number: n82ap (1st gen iPhone was model m68ap)
- UMTS Power Saving - on or off
- Hooks for Global Locate Library (GLL), software that handles GPS related commands for the host processor[/i]
I'm not sure how accurate it is, as it was posted on 6th June, but it was said to be from a credible source. I'm sure once they ship someone will open it up and report back on the exact components. Looking at the list, one thing that is the same is the Main CPU.
I think the main changes are 3G and GPS for the iPhone 3G, so it's more of a dot upgrade than a full version number upgrade. The majority of new additions seem to be in the iPhone 2.0 firmware/software, and they can be applied to an original iPhone, so existing owners are not losing out too much, and I think that was Apple's plan, as they don't want to totally alienate existing owners (though one could argue they don't give a stuff as they dropped the price of the iPhone not too long after launch)

So if the main CPU etc is the same, and other features like GPS & 3G have been added, might it actually run slower than old model?
Just thinking that if some games dev's like Sega have working with it, the games might chug a bit on the new phone if the power is being utilised elsewhere.
