Is fuel surge dangerous?
#37
No, it's fuel surge. I know because: a) my car used to do it even at 330bhp, once fuel dropped below about 40%, and b) fitting an anti-fuel surge device cured it. And I only ever got the problem on the road because I don't track it.
Can't tell you if it damages the engine or not because I got the problem fixed in a couple of months, and once it started I made sure the fuel didn't drop below 40%.

My car is relatively standard engine wise and i get fuel surge from 1/4 tank and below, soemthimes half a tank, which is bloody annoying, my mates RS Turbo doesnt get it and it bloody annoys me i do !
typical scenario, T Junction, full lock of steering to the right, full throttle and off i go, as the car straitens up, fuel surge for sure, cough, backs right off, like i have pulled the key out, then a 2nd or 2 later, all power again, whip lash recipe !!!!!!!

Rig. It shouldn't be doing that by just pulling away from a junction.
Seriously, the only time I could get fuel surge was on very long high speed right handers like on some motorway slip roads (with 30mph limits that can be taken at 80mph....just ). And thats with well below a 1/4 of a tank. And I've ran my car on fumes enough times to know that.
Uprated fuel pump? Some have been known to have the fuel pick-up not to sit as low in the tank as the factory pump.

Fuel surge in action:

Funnily enough the driver came in for fuel shortly afterwards.
US fuel pumps have a small plastic box around the pick up filter to hold back some fuel to avoid this - from the land of not many corners
