young male, almost certainly recently released for shooting - 90% of these things are bred for shooting and they can fly so they're better sport when beaters flush them into the open.
we have them in our garden now and then - if you're lucky he'll stay around long enough to be able to avoid the shoot. keep feeding, though, or he won't last the winter - poor sod has likely never been in the wild to fend for himself (hence his confusion and is now looking for human assistance).
good luck - they're fun to have around (until he gets noisy!)
