There are many gangs of chavs doing this at the moment. They are all on about 20 sets of bail for the same type of offences, yet our impotent court system just keeps on bailing em......and finally when its game over, the get 18months- 3 years.....not bad for say 30 burglaries/cars (and they are just the ones they have been caught with)...
Bet the RS4 is being thrashed around the Ravenscliffe Estate in Bradford as we speak....that is the home of bradford's 'hanois' burglars////

My Clio ended up in Bradford, is it well known for stolen cars?
Dave got his MX bike nicked on Sunday night. We were in when they did it and we didn't realise til yesterday morning.
Few texts to his MX mates and a visit to the burger van on the local industrial estate and it was back in the garage by lunch time. Couple of 15 year olds nicked it, but didn't stay around when Dave and a mate went to collect it. They had tried a couple of times we think as the alarm went off one Saturday night couple of weeks ago. They knew they'd have to take it while we were still up as the alarm would be set during the day and whilst we were asleep. Sorry to hear about the theft, but a couple of points :
1. Living in a nice area means your more likely to get the car stolen - where do you think car thieves go looking for expensive new motors ? not the local chav estate ! Also, larger houses with bigger gardens mean they are further away from the neighbours, so less likely to be seen. If you are looking to steal a £50K car, you go to the areas where people can afford to buy them.
2. Taking your keys upstairs or hiding them is fine - your car = £50K - how much are your wife and kids safety worth ? Some nutter smashes you with a hammer or knifes you and you die, how happy are your family going to be that 'at least you tried to hide the keys' ?
3. The car was quite probably stolen by professionals - the sort of car it is, and the value, and the fact they sneaked in as quietly as possible and were off without any confrontation sounds like they knew exactly what they were looking for rather than it being an opportunist crime.
4. 99% that they will assume a tracker is fitted - car is probably parked up in a garage somewhere waiting to see if the police come along and get it - if they dont after a few days it will be on a ship overseas asap or being rung in some backstreet garage.
5. For all the have a go heroes on here who say what they would do 'if' it happened - I seriously doubt your ability to fight off 3 or 4 big blokes with weapons when one is holding a knife to your wife or kids throat and you have just woken up in the early hours.
I agree it is a horrible thing to happen, and I would also be gutted, angry etc... but at the end of the day its only a car - its something you bought with money most of these thieves will never be able to earn for themselves ( very few career criminals make much money when you take away the time they spend in and out of prison - lots are lucky if they earn minimum wage over the course of their career. Most will end up living in a crappy rented flat on a dodgy estate in their old age, wishing they hadnt turned to crime and scraping together their pension to pay the leccy bill ).

Very good post, totally agree with everything you say, especially the bit about leaving car keys downstairs. I would urge people not to take them upstairs...
Car was last spotted in the Potternewton area of Leeds, but Police officer that rang didn't know who or what spotted it, she was going to try and find out.

sorry to hear about the theft,but i dont agree keys should be left downstairs so a burglar can just take your car, why not just leave your house unlocked with the car keys on the doorstep,why is everyone so pussyfied these days ?
if your walking down the street and i grab you by the throat and start throttlin you,you just gonna go o.k o.k take my keys and wallet, cheers.
tell me where you all live and i`ll be round if gettin your keys/property is this easy,no wonder theives do it !
everyone goes on about the law being soft, so are the public, while i sympothy for you, cant help but feel letting people rob yo is just as bad.(i know this isnt the case on this thread tho,not sayin gyou let them steel the car, in general)

I value mine and my families lives more than anything else. There's too many crack pot idiots out there who wouldn't think twice to ending your life. (I have first hand experience of losing a friend who saw someone beating his girlfriend up, he tried to help and got a knife in his heart for his troubles - totally changes your way of thinking when putting a value on a life)

I keep my key in my bedside draw with my baseball bat, some would say thats asking for trouble but if their in my bedroom, i'm not going down without a fight........other thing is i park my seat diesel behind the scoob so you got to move that before you can get it out..........hopefully they'll think thats too much bother......

Wife and children involved, why would you try and fight and risk their safety? What good is a punch going to do you, when they have a 12'' machete across your wife and childs throat? Sorry but that is sheer stupidity, especially when you're not losing anything, car insurance will cover it.

thats different tho, most the scenarios have been a guy boshes his way into MY bedroom and attacks ME,hence what id try and do is above.

Now. If I heard someone breaking into my property to get my car keys, and I had chance to get the gun cabinet keys, get the gun, load the gun etc, before they came into my bedroom, then yes, I'd take them on.
If I didn't have chance to get the gun, then my choice would be:
A) fight 1 or more tooled up men and risk a bl00dy good hiding or death. They then get the car keys, or
B) leave the keys where they can get them easily, and get the **** out.
I'd choose B.
Your car can be replaced. OK, you'll be gutted and angry over losing your can, but death can't be replaced.

Because of what the RS4 will probably be used for(cash in transit robbery etc),the tracker will have been overcome using a bit of kit that allows them to leave the car wherever without detection by tracker,unfortunately.
I know of a few RS4's stolen in the west mids that were found with this kit inside.
One car was even re stolen when from the garage,when it was in for repair following the last theft.
There is no real answer to stopping thieves,just have to use as many deterrents to make it as hard as poss for the scum bags

Scoobies used to be nicked for the same reason: fast, 4wd grip, 4 doors.
Good job they had ready access to the keys thoughv- you most definitely did the right thing; you can't be a have a go hero when there is family involved. Risking your own safety in defence of your property is one thing, putting their lives at risk would be another.
Chin up mate. The car can be replaced!

Sounds as though it is your car, and they threatened garage staff, just goes to show they would have done the same to you if they couldn't find the keys, and there was 4 of them, probs the same people who were at yours.
If people want something they go to extreme measures to make sure they get it.
I've often wondered what I would do if someone broke in, whether it was to take a car or not, being female I do not think I would take them on though, these days though whether you take someone on or not doesn't mean they won't still try to harm you. I don't think I would want my car back though even if it was found unharmed, which isn't very likely these days either, reasons being, I wouldn't be able to stand the fact that some scum had their grubby theiving hands all over it and the other reason being that I would be scared that someone had tried to take it once and would they be still watching and waiting for you while you were actually in the car to take it off you. Obviously everyone has their own views, these are just mine and I think being female makes a big difference, males might have a go to defend their property, but me, I think I'd be running in the opposite direction.

Nope .. other side of Manchester. It was used in 2 armed robberies one in west manchester (local to me) and the one in stockport before they found it in Wythenshawe. It was only missing for 48 hours!

very sorry to read your post, but as has been said earlier at least your family is safe.
Slightly suprised how many other replies report similar thefts - what the hell is this country coming to?
Question is how long will us law abiding folk put up with the thefts, burglaries, stabbings, yobs, shootings etc and a completely weak legal penal system before vigilante groups start to rise up to deal with this. Heard a story a while ago of a local lad getting a bloody good beating by an 'anonymous' group of business men whose shop windows he kept smashing, didnt happen again after that apparently.
I remember my father had his first Cosworth (one of the first around circa 1987) stolen from hotel car park in Bristol, completely mint car, bugger all mileage, only had it 6 months or so, his pride and joy. Used in a ram raid some days later.

I do wonder sometimes. Those of you willing to "get stuck in" over a car should think about it a bit more.
The insurance industry is built around one fundamental process, Risk Assessment. The amount you pay for insurance is the charge they take for taking on the risk that they have assessed you and your property for.
Risking yourself or your family to protect this asset, that you have already paid someone else to take the risk for, smacks of cleaning your windows the day before the window cleaner comes.
Personally, as much as I am attached to my car, I would not break a fingernail to protect it from this type of thief. That's what I pay the insurer 500 notes a year for.
I'd not have a second thought about risking my life to protect my family but for a car, no chance. Not ever. That's daft.
Really sorry to hear you've been through this, it's a pain and a worry. The fact that someone has been in your home like that is not nice. Hope you get things resolved quickly. I'd get a security expert along to do a risk analysis on your home to reduce the chance of someone getting in again. Not to protect your car, to protect you and yours.
Hopefully these ******* are caught and then they should be locked up and the key thrown away when they are caught. Preferably sharing cells with a guy called Bubba.
