I've just bought a suit from River Island for a up coming wedding I'm going to. I shopped around for a bit and for the money/style I was after it was prefect.. for the suit on its own with a waist coat, it cost about 160quid.
Have a look at the website think they have a few up on there..

IIRC the name was something like "Tom English" ?
to be compleatly honest i walked in not having a clue, never had a suit before, had no need for it, had no idea how they are supposed to "fit you" properlly,i assumed they were about £300 ish for a decent one? and asked the bloke for help picking one sizing it up and such, told him the old fella was getting cremated and i needed a decent suit, probably only ever wear it once or twice he asked how much i wanted to spend and i told him about £300
his reply was a classic "for what you want we can do them a bit cheaper then that"
i think the one i bought was around £150/£175 i remember trying to take it out the shop and the blokes shouting "no wait, we need to remove the labels on the cuffs"
i probably looked like a right ****en simpleton
still it beat the pants off my brother, who borrowed one of somebody that never fit, and my cousin who bought some mad thing made from what i assume, was old bin liners for about £40
never wore it since
just checked the website and its the same place,
Suits You
NACRO next time you use the DFDS at northshields, pop in for a cupper and i will take you ****, suit, shopping

Probably "Suits You". Picked a couple of work suits up from there a couple of months back. £150 ish quid each reduced from £300. Very nice fit and good quality, your Top Shop / M&S etc won't come close.

I was hoping for some recommendations from people who'd actually bought the gear as I haven't got time to look around.
I'd tend to avoid TopMan or Burton unless someone knew of some nice gear there.
I'm still intrigued to know if a Tesco/Asda value suit is remotely stylish. Sound ideal if they were, price of a few drinks and straight in the bin. Job done.

like i said above, i am clueless, but the jacket seamed well enough made at the time, the bloke in the shop could probably have pulled my pants down and shafted me and i would have been oblivious

Won't be in Shields this time, I'm taking the tunnel as the do is 'down south'. Like the idea of a free cuppa though I might well take you up on it next time I'm up there.

if you buy a suit, you could always post it home. i've done things like that before on scooter rallies (obviously not with suits, that would just be silly - unless you're a skinhead of course in which case a good tonic suit is hard to find).
the other answer is a compression sack. i've travelled all over holland on a lambretta with two compression sacks holding all my gear strapped to the tiny luggage rack - ie the footprint of the rack is probably half the size of a case of beer.

I reckon if I travelled all over Holland on a Lambretta that I'd have compressed sacks too.
