Netgear router bit offish with my PC!
#31
PC2 and PC3 3 (via wi-fi) hook up fine, but meantime PC 3 has useless IP and gateway addresses. The yellow light by the port flashes when it is connected, and the green one is solid. Much the same when it is in its silly mode, but of course the yellow doesn't flash, whilst the LAN 1 light on the router goes mental trying to find the PC.
What could it be guys? It is obviously something on PC1 - router is fine concurrently with the other PC's. I am tired of USB keys to print and swap files!!!!
Thanks for any further help.

Thanks to all for their suggestions, but I am still in connectivity hell. Nothing has worked and I am SICK of USB Flash drives between PC's.
It still starts with a sensible IP and Gateway, but some time later it changes on this ONE PC to a nonsense value and this one PC will not network or hook up to the net. All others connected to the same modem/router continue to work fine.
Happy to pay someone to fix it by now - anyone got any leads (S Wales) as I dont know who would do this kinda thing.
Cheers

My wireless on my brand new DG834Gv4 has started playing up again too Interestingly, in a taxi one evening on the way back home from Matlock, the cabbie's radio kept cutting out and he said it always did it this time of year. Said that the whole CB system became really useless. I know it's not wifi, but got me wondering.
Sounds like your situ is the same as mine, we have 2 work laptops, home laptop, desktop, PS3, Wii and mobile phone, all utilising the wireless. Had been working flawlessly for nigh on 3 years, then all of a sudden, went a bit weird about 2-3 months ago. Have since tried a buffalo router, and now a dg834gv4, having had a dg834gv2 before. Have tried swapping channels, no encryption, different encryption, DHCP on, static IPs, etc, etc. Sometimes machines connect, sometimes they don't, sometimes they can't even see the network. All a bit odd. I think something outside must be interfering in some way but no idea what.
When using a cable, it's fine, although have once had a DHCP issue where it wouldn't acquire a network address. Like Diesel though, it had been working absolutely fine, in fact my missus and myself were both on it at the same time when it first went screwy. Both our wireless connections dropped at exactly the same time, and she thought I'd rebooted the router. So something appeared to happen at a specific point in time to cause the drop out, but no idea what.....

As the alleged ‘network admin’, my PC is demanding I fix my connection problem – trouble is I have no idea what to do! Basically I lose the internet connection after about 20 mins use between my Netgear DG834 modem/router and my PC. Sometimes it comes back; most times it doesn’t.
The LAN 1 LED on the router flashes (and other relevant ISP logged on lights are ok), but I cant ping the router or ‘repair’ the connection – no IP address is assigned to the PC it seems. If I boot up a second PC attached to same switcher on port 2 it works fine & accesses internet.
The details are below if they mean anything to anyone who can help (noticeable by its absence that the router 192.168.0.1) and there are no packets flowing back from router to PC.
Physical Address: 00-30-1B-B3-FE-3F
IP Address: 169.254.80.37
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 169.254.80.37
DNS Servers: 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
WINS Server:
If you can help me thanks – as I have run out of what else to try now (including proper power off re-boots).
Thx

Anyhow, have ago at the following, just to get working and eliminate the DHCP on the router being a issue...
Fiirstly the 169.254, is an APIPA address that windows will use if it looses the dhcp lease, therefore thats what looks like is happening as you say you have physical connectivity..
So, turn off DHCP on the router, or you could even leave it on if only your using the network!
Make sure your router is still set as 192.168.0.1, then set you pc's 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.20 with a 255.255.255.0 mask, default gw as 192.168.0.1
Then do a constant ping from your pc, to the router "ping 192.168.0.1 -t"
see how long this stays up!
You could also fix you network card to 100m full, go to your network card, then do properties and then advanced, speed set to full...
Another thing just make sure all your pc have different mac addresses, I once went on a network fault where some muppet had managed to changed his card to the same as another pc,not bad to say he can't rememeber how he did it i little knowlege is often worse than none
I think you been down the changing cables bit, and as long as you network icon doesn't keeploosing connection that bit should be fine, setting to 100 full and having a static address will help yousee if its a nic card issue...
Then get you other pc on and do two pings at the same time one to pc1 and one to the router...
If you near Leeds i'd have a ganders for ya for nowt, but you probably not...
or et it running and do a Windows Help and Support and send me the invite...
I'll pm me email if ya need.
hope this helps

5 months later...... I took a punt on a £5 PCI LAN card and disabled the on chip LAN. Sorted
All the IT support I spoke to didnt want to come out as they saw I had probably had a good go already!
I think maybe a dodgy capacitor or something that gave up when it got warm...???
Thanks for the help here though.
