If we choose to go to alconbury, please keep your opinions to yourself regarding whether we should go! We are adults ,we will make up our own minds,I and the rest of the guys who are going on the day do not want to hear from you or anyone else on what we should do or not do!

Simon.
My post wasn't a 'We won't win..' moan. I didn't think it was a competition anyway?? I was simply stating that it's hardly a fair way to compare the different cars, which I thought WAS the purpose of the day?
Oh, and as this is a public bbs I think anyone's opinion on anything posted here is more than welcome.
Like I said, I'm sure it will be an awesome event. It would just give a better picture of the cars if there was something for every type.

If this is an event designed to compare various marques, then a 1/2mile test is very appropriate - although maybe it would be better as a standing kilometre, as this is a fairly std Eropean benchmark now.
I can't see why the whole host can't be done though, especially if it's GPS based gear - would then show the merits of individual cars rather than those that have the most outright power, which is unuseable in the "real" world.

Im doing a conversion on Tim_K's car and my 2000 Type RA V limited, mine may not be ready but his will. This car will be a top contender, he has applied for a place but may have left it too late. Block has been re-linered to 97mm 2.2l, race heads, race cams, full steel bottom end, fabricated full race inlet and exhaust manifolds, cossie T35 with modified comp housing and devoplment compressor wheel which is under way with our turbo man. Front mounted intercooler with water inj, big throttle body, special high flow injectors, jems ecu and more. If this car gets a place it will show the scoob can deliver the goods down the straights as well as the bends!

Have you seen some of the competition??
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/200plus/tr.../entrants.html
I think some Scooby owners are in for a rude awakening! This is not a dig at those entering!
Surprised not to see a certain MY97 & MY98 UK cars there, as well as a certain RA and some STI5's (yes that's you Trout!!) All with big figures and competent owners!

Craig,
When will you get it through your thick skull that 0-100mph bears absolutely NO relation to 60-100mph. The former is traction based, so 500+bhp through the skinny rears on a Coss won't ever equal a good standing start time. 60-100mph is TOTALLY different, as it is not traction related. You DON'T take your 0-60 away from your 0-100mph time to get your 60-100 time (or if you do, you get an inaccurate reading from a car suffering traction problems). 60-100 is done from a rolling start and the stop watch doesn't start until 60 is hit. If I don't get the launch right from a standing start (which I have never done ), then I am still wheelspinning way past 60mph.... From a rolling start, I have much more control of the wheelspin and can keep it under control.
Also I have never timed my 0-100 only 0-60 and that was ONCE. With practice, I should get low 4s (not bad for 2wd ). 0-100 in theory should be dispatched in under 9s with a good launch...
The reason why a standing ½ mile was chosen was because as has been said, powerful 2wd cars are wheelspinning all the way through the first 200m, which gives the 4x4s a huge headstart (several car lengths). The idea was that by the half mile, the advantage gained from 4x4 will make the competition a bit more level. I know that without traction my car will NEVER get under 12.5s over the quarter, something a 4x4 with 100bhp less would pish on. But I hope to put on a good show over the ½ mile.
Last year with 100bhp less and having to launch the car really delicately due to standard diff (0-60 in 6.6s and standing quarter in over 15!), I still managed to hit 172mph in the 1.2 miles. This year I should be able to go mental on the launch (Quaife diff) and go a LOT faster...
It will be a good day, and I hope to see all the Scooby boys there that I haven't seen for a while....
Best regards

Steve,
When have you EVER dusted me? If you mean the time you beat me when I cocked up the launch, I retaliated later on in the day and beat your time... I also had 100bhp less in those days (giving an equal power to weight... ).
I don't remember the AVA thing, that was a RR shoot-out
Adam,
All the 4x4s are sporting modded gearboxes (semi-straight cut or dog box) and all the 2wds have / should have by then uprated diffs (Quaife).

Pbone,
Please dont be put off by the usual"my cars faster than yours"brigade, the whole point of the day is to compare different specs of cars and see what the different results are,not which is fastest, because that will be the Mclaren F1 road car!(and thats the cheapest 60BHP mod in history!
Jewboy the guy wants to remain nameless for now, spec of car is confidential(owners wishes)but 400+ is definately on the cards
Regards
Simon
