Considering Legacy Estate DIESEL!

I'm chuckling at the thought of scoobytuners united scrambling around to find out what a diesel is & how to make it go faster, corner harder, brake better, roll less...............

TBH, I'm teetering right on the brink of swapping the 55 reg STi for a Leggy D with all the toys.
Drove one, liked it (A lot).
Already converted to diesel by the other car in our household being a brilliant little oil burner.
Would miss the STi but think the Legacy would tick more boxes for 'us' in the next 5-10 years. Plus I get a free track day car trailer tower!

Funny that this is getting discussed here on SNet, I had a look at a legacy forum, and they dont seem to have a clue!

I sold my MY53 WRX after 3 years of ownership, mainly due to increasing fuel costs and changing jobs resulting a much longer commute. I immediately regretted selling the car, I missed the grip, the flat four burble and whole Subaru experience – the grin factor.
But now the grin is back! I picked up my Legacy 2.0D last week. The Subaru burble can be heard coming from the diesel flat four either hot or cold. The grip levels are as good or even better than I remember. It feels like a Subaru and drives like a Subaru.
IMHO the engine characteristic is more like a normally aspirated 2.0 petrol than a diesel, (the Legacy replaced a 2.0D Volvo S40 and personally I think the S40 torque "surge" was more powerful (I'm hoping that will change once the Legacy has a few more miles on the clock )).
You can't compare the 2.0D with any of the performance Subaru's, it a diesel after all, but I can nail the throttle in the twisty bits and think, I bet I couldn't get away with in any other diesel, and get an average of 43mpg. What's why I'm now a Leg man
PS. If Prodrive ever do a set of springs for the Lego Estate, I'll be fitting them!

Btw, I did take the plunge, Leggy D Est in black with black leather. So far, loving it & more importantly, not missing the STi.
