i only decided to but this car as they told me they just gave it a full rebuild, crank, bearings etc, i had it an hour and didnt do over 60 in it as i was running her in, was doing 40 mph when it blew
i dont know if there mechanics are qualified or if they know what the **** they are doing but 3 builds in a few weeks doesnt sound good
i will c what is happening later on today and question exactly what they have done, if im not happy then i will ask for my cash back

Hopefully you have not lost your right to reject it?

I would seriously look at the Small Claims Court if you are not 100% satisfied.

Yep, but with some cars the damage is already done, which appears to be the case here!

Ignorance of how to treat a performance car usually a good culprit; I've spoken to several specialists about this and they all say a common scenario is that x gets an early import Impreza, which is already past its best, maybe fills it up with non SUL, doesn't bother to warm it up before using boost and proceeds to take all their mates for a spin...

In fact I'm guessing that the last words mentioned before many a engine failure were:

"fast aint it?"

"what's that noise.......Oh F**k!!

so i rang them at 5 and they have put a new head on, i asked if they replaced 1 or 2 but only the one as they say it was f****d!! from when it blew. so that answers the question did they strip down the heads. i personally cant understand how just one head is dead and the other is ok??
anyway they havent started it up yet they are going to do that in the morning.
so i might get it back tomorrow: or maybe not

Finger crossed for you mate, Make sure they have changed the modine oil cooler. if they havent its no good. its a small part and if not changed all the crap from the previous failures will go stright back into the crank and reuin it. I only say this as its suspect that it was not properly cleaned last time.

rang garage this morning as they said it would be all done and fired up, wasnt what i wanted to hear!! lee said its just not right?? running poor very lumpy etc, told me to ring at end of the day,
i decided to go there as i wasnt happy with waiting any longer after 3 rebuilds and still not right,
left it a few hours and went down to find them just dropping an engine in it lee said they wasn,t happy with the engine so they have decided to take an engine out of a version 4 they have there which they know is perfect. so i waited a while and it didnt take long before she was all together and running sounds lovely, he said he wouldnt let the car go how it was running and said it is just going to be problem after problem.
MOT is low so he has it booked in for a new one on friday so i will finally pick it up friday afternoon
ok ive had to wait a couple of weeks but they wanted it right and went to the extent of robbing an engine out of v4 to save me having to wait any longer, cant fault them

Glad it looks like you have it sorted at last
So have they used the original V3 turbo (VF23) or have they put the V4 one on which I think is different?
Did you see the car it came out off? Check its an STI motor, the mileage etc??
I think the heads are the same anybody know of any other differences??

Get yourself some gauges for it I have started a group buy on some to help put my own mind at rest with the oil pressure, temp and boost pressure.
May be a good investment and piece of mind

Is the difference in turbo going to change the engine characteristics with the ecu map??
Or is the V4 a good upgrade on a std map?

Didn't want to scare you just asking if others know if it will be ok before you collect it as I think the turbos are different.
Dont want any more problems once you collect it

Ask for the v4 ecu or even better, get a remap asap and don't give it any stick until then!

Just read your post, what a bummer of a fortnight you've had.. Your a real patient guy, more than most I would say, i would have gone nuts seeing and waiting whilst they swap and mess about with the engines.. Good luck tomoz when you finally get to collect her.. Get your name down though for the group buy on the gauges, you could be number 20 you know !!!

Like they said in previous posts, you'll drive it differently when you can see the actual oil temp, guaranteed.. enjoy your weekend with her, Julie

Do the sti 3 & 4 have the same turbos and have they used the ecu from the version 4 because that will have a slightly different map?
