That's one bend.... a single bend. Not two or a series... one... single.. uno.. as in 1 less than 2 (or whatever number takes your fancy to leave the answer at 1)... add another a few yards after and it all goes wrong. As it always did.

I'm playing devil's advocate here because I always said that if they made the Evo go as it looked in those earlier development shots, then I'd have one over a Scoob. The STI (IMHO) still looks, sounds and goes like a turd.. The Evo may look good but it still has to rely on the electronics to go round a bend properly (single). That said, the few toys that it did have made it stand out.

What'll let the Evo down will be the unhealthy MPG, service intervals and insurance. As it always did. It was never a daily drive.

Once Powerstation and the others get hold of a Scoob, I'd wager a T20 / 25 version will be the car to beat. The Scoob will still have the appeal that you can really tune it across a much broader spectrum (as you always could) and the after marklet sales will make it an individuals car. The Evo never really had that appeal.. it was always an Evo. Apart from the Ltds such as the Tommi Mak etc.

It will interesting watching this from the comfort of BMW Towers.... which way will it go and which car will tempt me back?

 

I'd plump for the Evo on looks alone at the same price, but given a Prodrive'd 3-door hatch I'd be easy to convince otherwise....

IMO both cars are just as tuneable, if anything the Evo has always had the stronger, more flexible angine and the better chassis. There are tuners in both camps (both good and bad) who will wring the nuts out of each of them.

And if anyhting it'll be a GTR that gets you out of the oil drum

It's always been stuck with the generic lable of 'Evo'. It's never managed to capture the individuality of the Scoob. It's % sales of the Scoob were for a reason. Don't go all 'Mac' on me... or Beta Max for that matter. In some ways these had / have some edges over their rivals but (remove marketing) they never made it. Ease of use, functionality, individuality, X factor, perceived 'geekness' etc were some of the reasons. Exclusivity never really sells in hundreds or thousands... self defeating really and the people who do have / had Mac's and Beta Max are usually the ones at the front shouting loudest at how good they are... they may have a point...up to a point... but they're standing on their own for a reason...

One thing that I do agree with is the GTR (if I could afford it)...even the P2 would pull me back... I may change my mind after a remap however.......

 

It's like there's never a queue at the deli where I get my freshly made sandwich and latte, but there is always a queue at McDonalds It's why Curry's are so busy and independent audiophile stores keep closing down And maybe why there are 100 million Vauxhaul Corsa's in the world I tried following the masses with the Corsa (for valid reasons) and therefore I must revert back to standing out there on my own. We've all bought stuff for the cool value, but longevity comes with items that are tried, tested and able to fulfill many needs or touch the right warm and fuzzy points. The Ipod is one item. Not really mass marketed to death (ok a few TV adverts) but there are many, many other products out there that some people argue are better... but they don't take off for a reason. Why go and buy an inferior model just because no one else has one?

A Monaro is probably a good link. Apparantly one of the best driving secrets... why has this not taken off if it's so good? It's exclusivity means it's a bugger to own at the end of the day and depreciation will rip the life out of your bank account.. It may be cool to own one, but you'll pay in the end.

I don't buy something because it's purposely not used by everyone else. If it happens then it's because I feel it's worth it...

indeed i agree, ipods have remained popular because it was the first and best to do what it does, even now there are much better items on the market, apple had it sewn up years ago, so people who know the difference will research media players, whilst mr j. bloggs will go to argos and buy an ipod!!

agreed though, its nice to buy something out of mainstream, as long as it wont break every 5 minutes (cough cough...my MG for instance!!)

Nothing wrong with mainstream. I mean, we all own / owned the best 4 wheel drive rally variant don't / didn't we?

 

I used to own a Japanese 4 door saloon with 4 wheel drive, it wasn't a rally car though, by any stretch. 100 yards off road once nearly broke it.

I respect your position on Mac's, and given your profession it is most certainly the correct standpoint. For the average home user however, the easy to use, attractive and stable OS and GUI, allied with the longevity of use (our w*rk Macs have just been replaced after 10 years, only because the new software needs higher spec machines, they were still fine; our PC's are replaced AT LEAST every 3 years) over price and the fact that you will probably never need to upgrade any component during its lifespan makes them a very good option. 10 minutes in the Computer section on here sees no end of people querying mother boards, graphic cards and a whole raft of components which people choose to constantly fiddle with. My Mac had a memory top-up when I bought it, and needed a new HDD last year. At 9yo it's ready for the knackers yard, but it still works, free of virus's, even without virus protection, and is more stable now due to OS evolution than the day I bought it (it hasn't crashed in 6+ years now). For home use, surfing, email, letters, media and a bit of playing about, they are superb, but you need to WANT to try one before you'll give it your time. Most PC people give them 2-3 minutes and decide against. That's like driving a Ferrari around the car park and saying you don't like it 'cos the clutch is too stiff, it has a poor turning circle and the rear visibility is awful !

I won't change you, you won't change me. I use PC daily, and hate every minute. I use Mac daily, and enjoy the experience.

** Don't get me started on how Scameras, the Police being used inefficiently to nab the speeding car driver as easy pickings (rather than really focusing on untaxed, uninsured, unlicensed and illegal cars as well as drug users, robbers muggers and shoplifters that cost us untold millions) and and the constant degradation of our roads is making car use a PITA and really becoming a chore. Seems the inexplicable lowering of certain speed limits (how many old 50's do I now drive that are 40?) and the fake or extended road works are designed to make driving a pain and this is the method being employed to move us on to the crap and inadequate public transport

The Stelvio run really put me back in love with driving. The open roads maintained wonderfully (not the pothole marked, lumpy, patchy and rushed bodge jobs I see around Wakefield), the consideration and lane discipline, the efficiency of the road repairs we did see, the lack of traffic lights, signs, roundabouts and their decision not to put a camera or Traffic car on anything resembling an enjoyable stretch leads me to believe this country is employing Stalinist measures. I really am fed up with being ordered and forced to drive to how some out of touch and up their **** Politician tells me I should. The roads we drove to and from Switzerland are a model of how it should be here.

Never mind all this Scoob Vs Evo nonesense buy yourself a bike for a 5th/6th/7th of the price, save £250 a month on petrol, parking, insurance, tax etc then nick your partners car whenever you need to be practical. Works for me

 

But the Scoob IS my partners car! Sort of...

 

At the expense of dressing like a Power Ranger everytime you go out...

I'll stick with the car thanks
