Cheers for the reply...

I do have the slanty intercooler yes...and therefore must be the TD05 then

I have a slight judder like fuel starvation occasionally when under hard accelleration usually in 3rd, just backs off and then back on power straight away.. could be the coil packs on the way out? how much are a new set?

I'll gladly stick with Optimax for the time being then

Cheers

Might be, it's hard to tell.

A set of coilpacks are about £200-£250 from memory. A nice tip I got from Bob Rawle to check the coilpacks is..

Take out your plugs and adjust the gap to 0.6mm. If the problem stops it's your coilpacks that are dodgy. This is not a solution to the problem, it's just a test. Obviously, bad coilpack = weak spark, lowering gap strengthens it.

Oh, here's my silvered dash too.

Alan,

Yes at 98 they got the dash out of the Forester I think.

Thanks Mike,

I was actually to clever for my own good. I thought I'll need a paint that bonds well to plastic but that is also tough and hardwearing, so I used silver Wheel trim paint which would have been ideal, but like a numptie I used standard primer instead of flexible stuff. Now, I didn't think the dash would flex that much but it obviously does, as flex marks have started to appear

So, come summer I'll have to redo it with plastic primer, I've also done the side vents, door handle surrounds and door closing handles and they've been fine.

Cheers

Rich

How much for an HKS FCD, and HKS EVC thing, then.
Not sure I want to run 19psi, but am currently running 15psi with the odd 16psi peak on a UK MY94.

Showed 240BHP at PE running 14psi.

P.S like the dash, done mine Nimbus Grey (Silver) last summer. Getting a GGR Dash kit next week, so will look even better (hopefully).

Question

Rich,

Seen as the damn search is not working (I feel sorry for John Banks!) I had a look on I-Club about the fitting of lightened pulleys.

The general opinion left me undecided on them, some said it gave idling problems due to the crank turning a lighter pulley and others said it was a fantastic mod for the price. I saw mentioned also that for every pound in weight saved this corresponded to a 2.7bhp increase. This was probably for a normally aspirated engine though.

Have you noticed any difference with Idling?

Damian.

Damian,

No probs whatsoever, the car idles beautifully. I'm just wondering if fitting a lightened flywheel will have an equal effect again.

Nezz,

Thought about that but, I'd wouldn't want the increased lag, the Td05 is laggy enough as it is.

Cheers

Rich,

Mentioned previously on the BBS, I think by Mr Banks was turning the dump valve around... have you done this?

Wondering what effects this has on engine and turbo life?

Anyway comment?

I have a similar configuration on my MY97,

HKS EVC IV at 1.3 bar
HKS Sparks
STI intercooler hoses
VF24 / 22
3” exhaust system
Inverted Blow off valve (it works great)
Sti gear box with electronic center differential
STD ECU
STD internals

The car runs like hell, don’t have a Dyno in Peru but I have blown the STI (280 ps) and the EVO VII easy.
My car has already 92,000 Km with out any problem.

Does the Well Lane Roller have the capability to give the Paw figure

I think RW's would have been nearer 100bhp PaW!

You'd have probably got 400bhp but for that?

Rich,

Are you still running the standard brakes and suspension?

Brakes I thought were really good when I first got mine..
then after getting used to the car they are not quite up to it..

Just wondered how you were getting on with the extra power?

In a word...no.

I have lowered sprins fitted, uprated front and rear ARBs and ARB links, and an anti lift kit.

On the brakes front, I've got the 4 pot upgrade with EBC discs all round, braided hoses, brake support bracket, Dot 5.1 fluid and redstuff pads (f) greenstuff (r).

The performance is now beyond the brakes so I'm waiting for a 6 pot upgrade and bigger discs.

And I'm getting on fine with the power, thanks

Cheers

You just need a decent front and rear strut brace?

and a decent suspension kit then - if you find a good one pls tell me about it - other than DMS Gold I'm not aware of one thats out there - do ya have to have the DMS rebuilt every 10 miles I wonder?

You'll find it easier getting a second hand set of 4 pots and the stopping difference is very marginal - and cheaper and cheaper on the brake pads and the weight

That said the performance is pretty basic on your car, so perhaps you should downgrade to 2 pots at the front??? haaaaa haaaarrrrr

We'll have to see if the result is consistent next time, once you've had a test drive in an erm... faster car you'll be wishing you'd never started the 320bhp topic

Ooops! forgot to mention my strutbrace. Front OMP one.

As for the rear, who does one that's not a remortgage your house job like the £500 STi front ones.

I think struts is the next item on my shopping list. Like you, Steve I'm looking for something good but wouldn't want to spend the money on DMS, I think I'd cry. Especially seeing as I'm looking at either an FMIC (like you) or equal length headers, don't know yet.

Re the brakes, I've got some nice callipers of an old BMX in the garage, wonder if they'd do the job too.

Cheers

Forget the equal length headers - better VFM is to get the std headers ported - the difference will be marginal - but you'll be forking out an extra grand for very little benefit on the aftermarket jobs - yes I'm very sceptical.......

As for rear strut braces I think Adam M mentioned the Cusco carbon fibre one for the rear is much cheaper? - well worth while - I actually noticed the difference when I had it fitted! (shock horror for me....)

I paid £700 for front and rear sti strut braces, a high price to pay........

Take it steady on the Caliper front - you might, one day learn how to drive a car..... well at least up steep hills...until that day, brake upgrades are an uneeded luxury, think of all the weight you'd save by not having them. While youre at it remove the rear BMX calipers and the erm... handbrake assembly - you'd save so much in weight

You could also remove the Lada engine - just think how fast it would be without this 'extra' weight in the car.

I did see holes in the floorplan last time when it was parked on the driveway didnt I?..........

320 bhp - more like Knackered Ponies....

Rich,

Sounds like value BHP per £ equation, on the verge of buyin a Scoob myself and I'm really tempted to buy all the bits you quote for similar results.

Question, where did you source the parts from and who did all the work for you?

Cheers.

Would be interesting to see what you lot get at John Nobles.

For comparison, a P1 which made 315@ PE, made 290 @ Nobles.

Think you're car seems to have done quite well Rich. Considering what others have done and have got not much more.

You obviously haven't got a lemon, whereas some people, no matter what they do, will end up trying to polish a turd.

Know what I mean?

Well done Rich,

Think its worth posting a pic of it though 96 with bigger turbo's rule!

On strutbraces, did you notice any difference? I heard Prodrive have never used them on a WRC car? Put me off a bit.

BTW, Rich, I think one of your mates was in Robinsons of Rochdale on Thursday getting his temp. sensor changed. He's aiming for 400bhp eventually

LOL@ Steve...Lada engine

Bream, all my parts were bought from Jap Innovations or this very bbs, and JI also carried out all the work too

Just for you Mark, here's a pic (I'm sure a few of you have seen this before)

On the strut brace, can't say I noticed a major difference, but combined with other mods I'm sure there is a difference, can make things any worse, and for £45 it's worth it for looks alone. The WRCs don't need 'em cause their fully roll-caged up chassis is as stiff as a b*stard anyway, not like our humble road cars.

Cheers CraigH for the compliment. Long way to go before I'm worrying you though.

Chiark,

Wouldn't be Lee would it? He's had some mean old cars in his time so I'd better watch out! He takes his car to the same place as me so he knows all my secrets!!!

Mystery on that time thing. Think I'll start calling the car the Tardis.
