Going back to the original post. The reason why the English get so worked up about Murray's comments is generally most England fans would like to see other home teams doing well if they were playing teams other than England.
This has changed somewhat over the years for me as all I hear from a large portion of Scots is the same old 'I'll be supporting any other team than England' guff. That goes beyond not supporting England, it's tantamount to an attitude of hatred to the English.
It's got to the point for me that forget Scotland having a referendum on Independence, I want England to have one.
No-one cheered louder than me when the pathetic Butthead with a tennis racket got dumped on his **** at Wimbledon. Naturally I support any tennis player he's against, and the same for any Scottish player saying the same things as he did.

Why is this made out to be a Scottish versus English thing? Its quite clearly more than that, as the following article suggests. One of may reasons why some people support any team other than England.
Goal.com - World Cup - 1966 & 1974 World Cups Were Fixed - Former FIFA President
Another reason might also be that your commentators always suggest that England should win it, building them up to be world beaters, which the English Football team clearly are not. Leaving England with egg on there face everytime they fail. Which is quite often entertaining but getting old hat now.
As for the Scots hating the English and all things English that's simply not true. I support all things that are British. But when it comes to football I support Scotland because thats my home nation, I like how all the anti-Scottish bile appeared from some English posters but thats to be expected I suppose
Nice forum
The 1966 World Cup held in England has been the centre of a number of conspiracy theories over the years. These include England’s quarter final victory over Argentina when the hosts won 1-0 after the South Americans had seen their captain Antonio Rattin controversially handed a straight red card for arguing with the referee.
It has been claimed that there was a plot for England to win the World Cup, and the referee from this game was German, while the official in Germany’s quarter final win over Uruguay was English. The controversy continued in the final with Geoff Hurst’s famous ‘was it over the line?’ goal.
Joao Havelange, who was FIFA President from 1974 until 1998 is certain to have further fuelled these conspiracy theories by openly stating that the 1966 and ’74 World Cups were fixed.
"In the three matches that the Brazilian national team played in 1966, of the three referees and six linesmen, seven were British and two were Germans," Havelange told Folha de Sao Paulo.
"Brazil went out, Pele ‘exited’ through injury [following some rough defensive play], and England and Germany entered into the final, just as the Englishman Sir Stanley Rous, who was the President of FIFA at the time, had wanted.
"In Germany in 1974 the same thing happened. During the Brazil-Holland match, the referee was German, we lost 2-0 and Germany won the title," said Havelange.
"We were the best in the world, and had the same team that had won the World Cup in 1962 in Chile and 1970 in Mexico, but it was planned for the host countries to win.”
World Cup hosts have been at the centre of many conspiracy claims over the year. In 1978 Argentina needed to beat Copa America holders Peru by four clear goals to reach the final ahead of Brazil. They won 6-0 but their were dark rumours that Peru, who had an Argentine-born goalkeeper, had thrown the game. Meanwhile in 2002, minnows South Korea were at the centre of similar claims as they finished fourth after seeing a host of dubious decisions go their way in the victories over Italy and Spain.

Sorry, but dredging up some half baked theory from a world cup 40 odd years ago and suggesting that this is why people support 'any team that plays against the English' is pretty pathetic.
The point here is not as you're Scottish you should support an English side, but rather supporting every team against the English, there's a gulf of difference.
At the end of the day the idiots that stir this anti English bile will see the normal everyday English person go completely anti Scottish in every respect, not just football. From what the likes of Murray spout I can't say I'd have any sympathy either.
Roll on Murray's next tennis opponent, I hope he gets thrashed again.

At least Murray only said he wanted the English team to lose.... Look at the racial abuse and slaggings off us jocks have been given by the English SNers (and of course it doesn't just happen on SN and not always in jest). Reading back over the thread it's actually quite disgusting.
Classic debate about football turns into a racial slagging. Nice touch boys

English commentators bringing up 1966 everytime England play is Pathetic and tends to get the neutrals back up after a while..
Flooding the whole of the UK with the Believe Mars bar! was also a stroke of genius.
Every competition that England enter they think they have won before they start. Its the English arrogance that people from other countries don't like.
Not saying that's the case with the whole nation but thats what English commentators portray.
Oh and by the way I wanted Murry to get humped for the simple reason that he's crap, Not because he is Scottish.

A little lighthearted banter with an English friend - I smell of Irn Bru (when I drink it) and YES as matter of factly I DO munch on haggis, on quite a regular basis as it happens.
But in no way have any of us stooped as low as:
or
Hardly friendly banter is it??
Whatever happened to the logical and reasoned debate DD started this thread with the intention of having?
To be fair - your banter has been lighthearted, Mr Hunt. The worst you've said is that we dress like wimmins and have william wallace hair cuts!
But in no way have any of us stooped as low as:
Have you noticed how the Scots don't have a top lip? It's because they're so dour and hardly ever smile. Then with their limited speech which never involves any of the muscles used in the top part of the face years of underdevelopment has lead to the top lip all but disappearing from their face.
I love the Scots with their wild Ginger fur, translucent blue skin and enthusiasm for alcohol, they are a fantastic species and I beleive have almost 99% human DNA, that they play football is amazing considering the diet and cloven Hooves.
We have a tame one at work, he will do tricks for a can of Special Brew which amuses us immensely, he can do basic tasks and is eager to please, he occasionaly nuts people, biting was a problem but he is 30 now so has no teeth left.

A thread like this should avoid any form of racist tag as it elevates it to something else and the whole banter style thing gets revisited by those more sensitive types and a hundred infractions issued as a result

Hello eClaire,
All my remarks (including the John Leslie one

Mr Hunt, please, call me Claire
The John Leslie comment didn't bother me at all. I retorted with Gary Glitter (least he was actually convicted). What got my goat were the deep cutting derogatory remarks on scottish people as a whole (please see my earlier post containing quotes of said insults). That's just not right is it. And I'm glad to see my fellow Scots kept their dignity and didn't lower themselves to such atrocious levels.

yaaa let's be welsh..Helloooo Police..
CARDIFF, Wales, July 5 (UPI) -- The moon was mistaken for a UFO by someone in southern Wales who asked police to investigate, officials say.
Details of the incident were released to highlight the types of unnecessary calls fielded by emergency services operators, the Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.
In a call to officials, the caller said, "I just need to inform you that across the mountain there's a bright stationary object."
"If you've got a couple of minutes perhaps you could find out what it is? It's been there at least half an hour and it's still there," the caller added.
Other unusual calls included someone asking for help voting for Rhydian on the TV show "The X-Factor" and another requesting a coin for their supermarket trolley, the newspaper said.
I do like wales though...
