Default Welcome to Sesame Street.

Good Evening, children.

Welcome to tonight's episode of Sesame Street.

The word of the day is: Diversity.

Diversity means difference – difference across race, nationality, gender, disability, sexual orientation, faith and age. It’s the recognition that not all people are the same and that people have varied and equally valuable skills, experience and knowledge to offer.

There is a personal responsibility which we all share in order to eliminate discrimination and to promote good relations between the Scoobynet community.

This isn't just a moral duty. Understanding diversity has a direct impact on the quality of our community. The more closely our community reflects the people it represents the more effectively it can provide for and support those people.

What I'd like to see is the members of SN treating everyone with fairness and respect, acknowledging that people have different backgrounds that affect what they need from this site and out there in the real world.

If the SN community reflects the ethnic and religious etc makeup of the populations it serves, it will be more likely to enable members to build better relationships within the community and eliminate tension between members.

I'm asking you all to consider and show respect for the opinions, circumstances and feelings of members, no matter what their race/nationality, religion, position, background, circumstances, status or appearance.

Why do I think I'm asking for too much?

Everyone I know backs England in the Ashes, including me. The rugby. And even some the football. You come across an intelligent and reasonable bloke the rest of the time - I can't believe you're basing your views on a whole nation on the actions of 1 arsehole.

Claire - polls usually designed to be a fair representation. A lot of Scots do hate the English compared to the vice-versa situation. I know its true as I read it here too --

You aren't one of them obviously, but they do exist in greater numbers than you might expect.

I'm very diverse, I offend everyone

In all seriousness though, and playing devils advocate, surely diversity extends to allowing people to be, un-diverse, otherwise it would by definition not be diverse Hence why Neo-**** types can say what they like in the US of A as they are protected by freedom of speech etc.

Back on topic, this thread does go some way to prove the OP's point, that the English can't understand why other nationalities from the UK don't support them by default. They don't question why Aussies or Canucks don't. Just because Scotland and Wales are part of the same land mass as England doesn't make it one nation. Look at the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Same island, very different due to history. How about East Timor and Indonesia? Put's arguing over 22 grown men chasing a bag of wind into perspective.

I love these light-hearted threads on SN, where's the monkey on a uni-cycle when you need one?

LOL

Where has this gone

I see a lot of banter, most of it in great spirit.

I see a bit of bitterness from certain of the English posters, but that is to be expected.

There's a fair amount of drivel too - Suresh, stick to Europe mate, you don't even live in the UK.

What needs to be reiterated, though, is that this isn't a Scotland V England thing. This is about the English FOOTBALL team.

Lets get that straight.

And yet, I see a few posts where some of the English contingent can't see that. Too blinkered perhaps? or simply to insecure? Who knows.

The reason I'll support any team to beat England in Football is the "arrogance" of the English media and the hype surrounding the whole tournament.

Not to mention the "I believe" Mars campaign - rather laughable. And very short sighted by Mars in Scotland (and probably Wales and NI too)

Murray's comment, I found out yesterday, was made some considerable time ago - and yet certain sections of the media (and a few on here) are still holding that against him....

Let it go

Nice post above by Chunky Dunky

Adieu

DD

Scottish first, British second (- as is Coulthard, but he's no daft ), doesn't hate the English, both shoulders intact , definitely not ginger, and nicely and naturally tanned (thick) skin at the moment

Just wondering what Scots think of Team GB's current performance so far? Maybe also what the Welsh think (what with Nicole Pooley winning Gold) and maybe the N Irish too?

And what happens if Team GB's Scottish contingent come home with no medals. Do you think "we" won nothing or do you think "we" won X golds, X silver, etc?

Irrelevant as Chris Hoy will win cycling gold, and the Canoeist dude was of the Scottish persuasion

In answer to your question the 'table' lists Great Britian, so at the moment it would sadly be we

Edited as I thought I'd better just add this

BBC SPORT | Olympics | Cycling | Awesome GB sprint team take gold

Well done GB team with CHRIS HOY in it

The Jocks are very well balanced on the whole.

They pretty much take folk as they find them.

The problem is there are just so many English *****

Cool

I used to be the same, it's sort of ingrained in Welsh culture too. However, after we were taken over by Bank of Jockland, my eyes were well and truly opened to the depth of dislike and bigotry within Scots, because I'm Welsh and to them a kindred spirit, so they never held back.

I found it quite shocking, so now I find all the Welsh nationalism and Scotiish nationalism quite embarrassing and unpleasant. If anyone asks me now, I say I'm British, and I for one would rather see the divisions of England, Scotland and Wales done away with altogether.

We shouldn't forget that without our English friends, we would be in a very poor state indeed.

Oddly though, when it comes to football, I support Germany, always have, always will .

A story from the past.

went along to my Favourite Bar in Aberdeen to watch that fateful game between England and Argentina. I knew the place would be full of "Argentinian" supporters baying for English blood and wasn't let down.

I had a tough choice for what to wear but made an inspired decision.

Becks scores his penalty and I jump up cheering - A pretty much lone voice in the bar. So knuckle dragging jock **** decides that I have offended his Nation by supporting Engerland while wearing a Scottish Football top and decides he's going to start on me.

His mates saved his & my life !

His pals managed to stop him trying to hit me before I had to !

If England were playing Scotland then quite naturally I would support England to win. If England were out of the competition then I would support Scotland since they are part of Britain. I can'r see what is so difficult about that!

totally different but heres one for ya...

How comes Scotland gets to vote on what goes on with England or britain or whatever...

And we dont get to vote on what goes on with Scotland

Now how can they get away with that?

And how comes we got a Scot running the country into the ground.

Since we gave the others there freedom how comes they think they still get a say in what goes on outside of there grounds

Each to their own. I am Scottish thus support Scotland and yes some of the time I will be Anti-England, this all depends if someone has p1ssed me off and its my right to be anti who-ever i want. Its generally only in the football though???

No different in me wishing nothing but bad things towards the scum that is the other team in Glasgow - I'm a Celtic fan by the way.

I personally love the rivalry between the nations and have had many a "debate" about it. Being in the services I get it day in day out and i assure you there are poo loads of english that love seeing scotland getting beat and knocked out.

I am sure this will have been done to death on here but there is no way I'm dragging my lazy Jock, anti-english/anyone i feel like, irn bru drinking, tight **** through all the previous posts.

Peace and love to one and all except the English lol.

No matter. Most of the world thinks that team GB at the olympics is in fact team England. For example, I saw some Dutch sailing girls giving an interview earlier this evening and they were talking of being defeated for the Yngling gold by the England squad - one of whom hails from sunny Dundee!

Go England 11 golds and climbing!
