So, if you want a German motor, why did you post on the Subaru Site?

With only 10,000 miles on the clock in 4 years, I would hope it's garage was heated/air conditioned!
Short trips to the Golf Club- Not good!
And you will be paying extra for that low mileage.

Another vote for the Foz STI or Legacy, both excellent cars and with enough space in the rear to put the dog comfortably. The Foz STI definitely a Q car if ever there was one - (just IMHO obviously).

Best thing would be to try and find one of each that you like the look of and test drive to see whether either one fits the bill.....

If I was looking at the new monster estates, I would probably go for the M5, but I would assume that you are looking second hand, so the M5 is out.

I've not driven those exact models, but have driven a fair few big Merc's and Audi's. It's down to personal choice, but I would go for either of these over a Range Rover etc.

The main difference between the 2 is that the Audi is 4 wheel drive. However, on dry roads I prefer driving the Merc, the Audi seems a little more divorced from the action - not that it would corner any slower, but doesn't give you as much feel and 'fun'.

Build quality wise, Audi of a few years ago seemed ahead of Merc - they went through a phase of suffering a lot of niggles which you wouldn't expect due to cutting back of manufacturing costs, whereas the Audi's seem pretty bomb-proof. The Audi's generally have better interiors too, although this depends on spec as well.

Both engines are awesome, but the Merc supercharged 55 is supposed to be amazing, and sounds it too.

So, neither are going to be fun in the same way a Subaru is, but for reliability, interior and I would say image, go for the Audi, but I would choose the Merc on the basis of its engine and being a bit more fun to drive.

HTH.

Got a mate who's just bought an E55 AMG saloon, WHAT A CAR!!, all that effortless power, totally different from a STI i don't think you can compare a FSTI with the german motors, there just tooo different........

Yes the FSTI will keep up and you mod it will go faster but its the luxury factor of being wafted around in nice large leather seats with SAT NAV/DVD and all the rest, i think it these factors you which you should consider..............

My sensible hat would say go for 535d thou.....AND THEN MOD IT!!....you will easily get 400BHP + and 500lb/ft of torque and have better fuel economy......

Wagon isn't really an estate in the true sense, nearest you get to an estate with a Subaru badge is the legacy.
