I have a complaint that i can not seam to resolve with my local police station (north shields) 4 times now we have had visits from police officers looking for people that simply do not live at out address, the first time was last year when they called looking for a "katrina", my girlfriend explained who lived at the address and the police left, once is an ok mistake to make in my opinion,

4/6/08

3 officers called at approx 8.10pm and asked for "geano and something to do with bail?" i explained who lived at the address and that i had never heard of this person, the police then left

5/7/08

at 6.00am 2 i was awoken by police officers banging on my front door, we live in a block of apartments and the noise was deafening, they asked if i was called "paul" and asked where "geano" was, i explained the situation yet again?!? and told the officers i have never heard of this person, not do i know who or where he is, i asked the officers to remove me from any list associated with this person and they told me "there is nothing we can do about it", this angered me a lot, while they are asking questions at my doorstep they ask of its ok to look around my property ?? i grant them access hoping that this will stop the hassle of police arriving at my door.

upon reviewing the cctv footage of the car park outside, i can see that they rang a few different intercom systems for my neighbours looking for my address (they are all numbered as far as i am aware, yet nobody rang mine) they then proceeded to walk over to my car and what looks like check the numberplate, try and look into my bedroom window? and then read the cctv warning sign on the window

they then buzz my upstairs neighbour a claimed 8 times (confirmed by neighbour on monday when i had to apologise for any disturbance caused) asking to be let into the building so they can bang on my front door.

this is unacceptable in my opinion

20 mins later at approx 6.20 i left to visit the north shields police station to make a complaint

5/7/08 - 6.30am

i arrive at the north shields police station, and attempt to make a complaint, i told the man at the counter what had happened previous, that i wish to make an official complaint about the police and that i "refuse to believe that nothing can be done about this"

the only thing i am told that can be done about it, is that a note will be put on file, and if/when they catch up with this "geano" person they will be sure to ask him why he is using my address.

i ask the man at the counter to please give me written confirmation of his words but he says he is unable to do this, the only thing he can do is put a note on the file, i was under the impression that i was supposed to have written details by law?

regardless, i figured i was just getting messed about, so i left, hoping this would all end


8/7/08 - 4.35pm

police called again, girlfriend is at my home and answers the intercom
"hello is that lisa?"
"yes"
"this is the police, can you open up"

now the girlfriend is called "lisa £$%^" because she was asked for by her first name she immediately thought that i had been in a bad accident or possibly killed, she came to the communal entrance upset.

the police officer said
"where is she?"
"who?"
"lisa mcfarlane"
"i am lisa £$%^, i have not heard of lisa mcfarlane"
"she said she was going to be here?"

my girlfriend then explained everything all over again regards every other time the police have called looking for people who we have never heard of

9/7/8 - 1.30pm

lisa goes to the north shields police station to make another complaint, explains the facts and the woman behind the counter tells her that she can not find the sargent anywhere, and if she leaves her mobile number the sargent will be sure to ring her back when she finds him. again no written details.

at approx 10.00pm the sargent seams to be found and rings her back and basically says, that a note will be put on file and when they catch this person they will ask them why they are using this address.


this is wholly unacceptable, my girlfriend lisa is a teacher who starts with a new local school at the start of the next term, and children from this school live in our street, it is unacceptable for the police to keep, what seams like harassing us and my neighbours, looking for somebody that we have never heard off, can you imagine how hard it would be for a new teacher at a school, when the kids can see the police arriving at the property all the time for no fault of our own? i have had to apologise a number of times to my neighbours for them getting woke up etc etc

we feel we are getting nowhere fast with this problem and it is getting swept under the carpet at every possible moment.

if i open a new bank account i have to have vast amounts of identification on me, yet somebody on bail from the police can just randomly make something up and that is the end of it? this is a massive failure of the police service in my opinion.

will the IPCC fix this problem for us?

it seams like we have no options left, we just want to have a nice peaceful life in a quiet neighbour hood that appears to have no actual crime in it, having the police harass us like this is simply not on

btw, i have nearly found out where the scumbag who started all this lives myself, just by asking the right people the right questions

Frankly, it's tough luck. If he has that much of a concern over it, he needs to speak to the local station, not just bitch about it on a forum. DO something about if it is bothering you, eh?! I wouldn't sit back and wait for them to come again - I'd put a stop to it.
