Do you know what? All of you.

There is little point putting a post on this website as most of you are so childish and pathetic, you can't stand to hear an opinion other than your own.

Not a single post has helped me before someone starts bickering or crying to mummy.

For ****s sake - grow the **** up and post informative, intelligent comments.

It's ok to disagree, but replying like a child makes you ALL look like ****s.

Back to sensible questions...

Out of curiosity, if you run MAF-less, what does the ECU use to measure airflow? Or is it using some completely different method of determining the correct fueling?

If I remember correctly map based ecus use boost and revs to determine fuelling, not 100% on that but sure a mapper will confirm.

MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure.

So knowing the ratio of atmospheric to boost, the ecu can calculate the equivalent airflow. A MAF sensor is non-linear and has to be "scaled" to convert the flow rate (voltage) into an ecu input.

AFAIK

It calculates air flow based on the equation PV=nRT I belieive.

yes thats correct

P= the absolute pressure of the engine
V= volume been measure ie manifold size
N= mass of the air
r= real gas constant for air
T= the absolute temperature of the volume been measured

When swapping to a MAP sensor, is a charge temp sensor fitted as well for use in the calculations?

Edit: Sorry for the resurrection of this thread. Forgot I found it through a google search when I posted.

Yes - a separate ACT sensor is fitted normally in the tmic or inlet pipe close to the throttle body to give an accurate compensation for the temp of the air going into the engine. It is all included in the cost of the Simtek supply and fitting.

Having fitted and mapped a few of these now - i agree they are a very good option.

With regards to them making the car smoother - a move to MAP based ecu can do this particularly in the transient areas coming off and onto the throttle. Obviously the mapper has to make it so with what they do but in essence the ecu makes it easier to get a good result.
