Is space 1999 a competitor ?
Gerry Anderson and his wife Sylvia seemed to get it right. Laptops and all in their earlier series of XL5 I think ? Please correct me.
Chorlton and the Wheelies - Mr Ben, Magic roundabout, Bagpuss , the wombles, Feckin Dickson of Dock Green (the friendly policeman)

Best thing on telly in the '80's (well, 1978 - 1980) was....
YouTube - Monkey Magic Intro
Friday's BBC2 about 6pm
(in the '80's that was, not now)
Utter brilliance. In fact, I still have a Monkey t-shirt![smug](images/smilies/smug.gif)

I used to like Dogtanian
![](http://www.80snostalgia.com/classictv/dogtanian/dogtanian.jpg)
As well as the other things mentioned here, especially the Banana Splits and Monkey! Although I do wonder how many boys questioned their sexuality by having 'strange' thoughts for the supposedly male Priest.

Edit: Oh, just searched and found she died at 27. That's a shame.

Chocky was plain odd, think there were a couple of sequels too.
Monkey, now there was a seriously cool show, fairly sure it's out on DVD.
How about another classic 80's show, not sure if you could really class it is as kids show though, but I digress; "The Adventure Game" drogna drogna!
Let's see, what else...
Stig of the Dump
Catweazle
Worzel Gummage
The Tripods (shame series two still hasn't been officially released on DVD)
Around the world with ***** Fog
Dark Season (I believe this was the first tv appearance of Kate Winslett)
A final one, and one of the classics; Grange Hill (who can forget the "sausage on a fork" opening sequence). Gripper, Tucker, Mrs McCluskey, Mr Bronson, Danny Kendall, Gonch and Hollo, Roland "Rowwwland" Browning, Stewpot, Geoff "Bullet" Baxter, all rather good characters. I think the early seasons were certainly the best.
