If you want a really cheap cup of tea you could use cold water. It would take a while to make but you would save shed loads of money

ALDI are doing dynamo 1 litre kettles at the moment, heat your water for free.

They are next to the dynamo torches, and work in a similar fashion.

Do you have to wind it up like a watch?

No, the pipe like handle goes from the base of the kettle to the lid, and you move a sheath/sleave up and down its length as fast as you can, a bit embarrasing actually.

Makes the saying come in for a cuppa, a bit more a apt.

I should imagine its a bit like starting a fire with a wet stick.

You can just picture peoples faces when they pass your tent at night

But its not really free. You have to do work to input the energy to boil the kettle. To achieve that you must eat some calories. Those come from food that has been grown, transported, packaged etc. using energy at each stage of the process. Probably cheaper to just use the electric.

Didn't someone show that driving to the shops is more efficient than walking, because of the calories you have to eat to walk and the associated energy costs?
