So my sti is registered as a GL

A lot of comments on this thread are clearly getting up your nose and given the above info I can see why. With road tax being based on emissions I would be amazed if anyone who is paying incorrect tax due to an incorrectly registered car is not breaking the law in some way or another. Who originally registered the car is probably irrelevant. If the DVLA get wind of this and thinks it is a significant problem I can see some very large retrospective bills coming people's way.
This isn't a dig or trolling or anything else that people want to call it so they can bury their heads in the sand. Everyone on this site driving an imported turbo of some description and not paying one of the higher rates of tax knows they are 'underpaying'. I'm sure no one will be updating their V5, but I'm sure they'll be the first to whinge when the law catches up with them.

If it helps the OP, just take a copy of your V5, then send the original off to DVLA with what you want it to say handwritten clearly in capitals and underlined in the correct place and they'll update and send you a new one...
Did this with mine and took about a week...
as previously mentioned as long as the car details are correct with your insurance company then should be no probs.

Your posts here, as well as on the rest of SN, are rubbish. You have been a member here for five minutes: over the last five years, that I know what I am talking about has been proved repeatedly.

im not sure if this has been previously mentioned, but i think alot of the grey imports are automatically registered as GL's. im not sure if its down to the people importing them who want cheap insurance, or if its an automatic thing that happened with the grey imports. i think if someone crashed into your car an the V5 said it was a GL but was an STI i dont think it would make a difference as they would pay out a market value on the spec car you have. if someone crashed into your car when it was on your driveway SORN'ed and uninsured, then the thirds party's insurance would pay out?

Well my version 5 was imported into the country as a brand new car in 1999 by a company that has been a franchised subaru dealer and has also been importing new jdm cars for well over 10 years. So i think they know what there talking about. My car says GL on the log book. Its a very common problem.

It depends on how you fill in the form, the effort made by the DVLA clerk (1.8GL is the first model in the Imprezas drop down menu) and then the further effort that you make if the V5 comes back with a half arsed entry. Vehicles that require an E-SVA cant be misregistered because the entry on the form has to match the E-SVA certificate and that matches the model report used. In this circumstance it can only be clerical error/slackness on the part of the person actually making the registration entry.
