I'm just not sure what to do, i'd like to keep the car if i'm honest but money is real tight and can afford huge repair bills. and parking it up for few months is not an option either as thats where it would stay forever probably

Not saying this about you scooby23

Some people drive these standard engine block impreza's like they have ferrari engines. The end result is this....

I felt the same way about the gti I've just broke. I just wanted someone to turn up and trailer it off, I didn't even want to look at the thing. If money is tight and you're getting **** offers then just bite the bullet and strip it if you think you can make more money out of it. Yes another Impreza will be gone from the roads but you'll have made enough cash to buy a working one.

no offence to you personally, thats just how it is in my world.

Never to sell owt to you. Its the luck of the draw im afraid you buy private you have NO comeback which is why these days a lot ofpeople go the trade route just in case. Its unfortunate I agree but in this culture of blame an claim it people with attitude like yours that just boosts this type of culture

bad luck people drive cars differently, this can have effects on the way the car performs. the old owner cannot be held responsible after a week if it was from a dealer i could understand. the old owner might of been driving it sensibly for a while and then you get another person in there who boots it and gives it some welly causing the engine to try and kick out some carbon build up but instead blowing the engine up. not saying that you booted it just a possibility.about the selling idea i wouldnt of thought you would get that much for it as a whole either leave it parked up until you can afford the repairs or break it.i mean do you really want to sell it knowing you have had it a week and some one else would be driving round in it once they repair it. i would be gutted.

Shocking!! Trading standards?

I haven't and will not buy anything on ebay worth more than £20. Too many crooks operate via it.

Not to say there are not lots of honest sellers.. As usual, minority spoil for majority.

If you're going to keep the car, be prepared to pay out to get the job done properly mate. I know it's not what you want to hear, but there is absolutely no point in getting a cheap job if it's going to last about 2 months before failing again, or not be fit for purpose in the first place, as above!!

Get the job done right first time, pay once!!

Really I think you need to make a tough decision, if you can't SORN it and save up for a few months for a proper rebuild or an engine replacement you know is sound, then you should cut your losses and sell it before it becomes a money pit!

Newsflash - API David to the rescue

Ok, just spoke to David at API and they are picking it up a week today

I decided the car was way too good to break or sell on cheap so after a call to David he made me feel at ease that they are the best people for the job and it will be done right first time.

They are going to take the engine out and once out can advise me of the total cost. Gotta say he was very friendly and very helpful, after being stung for a rebuild before at the cost of 5k i was very dubious about trusting a rebuilder again but lets hope that my faith in API pays off

Look forward to meeting you soon David and the gang at API

You spoke to the right people! Brace yourself, it's not going to be cheap, but you can take whatever API say as gold and you know that a) they will not rip you off and b) you will get an A1 job that'll last!

sorry dude, im a little dumbfounded by this.

i was under the assumption you were really stuck for cash? hence why i sent you the standard dumpvalve for postage costs to yourself and didnt ask for anything in return... you know a favour for someone struggling (bit like me).

if i had known it was more a case of appeasing your mrs and certainly not a cash flow issue, especially considering my financial situation and the difference the few ££ would have made to me.

looks like i got stung there.... i certainly will not be doing anyone a favour again
