A garage - do you manage without one?

the mindset is all important - if you are a worrier and are going to spend the night awake listening to everyone walking past your car - then on street parking not for you. If you can relax then it ain't a problem - recommendations:
get a paging car alarm add-on - very cheap (range about 500 yards) and keep the pager unit by the bed - then you know if the alarm in the middle of the night is yours or not WITHOUT getting out of bed!
get a massive + very noisy exhaust (good excuse this) so no ****** will dare attempt to nick the car for fear of waking the dead in the process!
use a disklok and other visual deterrents to show the car is protected.
Cultivate a 'mean' image* with the local teenageers by trying to run them over at every opportunity so they know to leave your car well alone and not risk death by scratching it or nicking dustcaps etc.!!
worked for me with a very conspicuous STI5 parked in street for 2 years.

*Also helps to have facial scars, missing teeth and generally violent disposition.

Figuring I'd have more cars than sense, I made sure my househunting stipulated that the house had at least 4 garages and hard standing for a few more ..
(hehe.. and either a snooker hall or swimming pool .. but that's not car related)
Couldn't do without garages.
