A piccie of his relative putting some rather famous boxer on the canvas
A traveller street boxer will make mince meat of the girlie martial art tarts - sorry to pop your bubble .... but when your teeth are on the street the last thing you will be thinking of is how you were supposed to be the king (as you are in the village hall on a wednesday night with your chums!)

Not all Martial arts are all "wax on wax off" some have evolved from the toughest places on earth, not to score points, nor to gain artistic merit, but to disable attackers (who are often intent on killing their opponents) as quickly and completely as possible. They don't teach KM to the Israli special forces for nothing!

As much as I hate to say this (as a peace loving brother) but when it comes to scrapping (especially on the floor) then it really is anything goes. Biting, scratching, elbows... all fair game... please dont get me wrong, i have never and will never go OTT on anyone but I have seen and been in situations where the other person wants to put you in a wheel chair.

I can assume that if you were a lone female and someone approached you in an aggressive manner it would be terrifying and hope that someone would come and assist you....

The bigger more aggressive guy does'nt always win, coming from a boxing and street fighting point of view.
I've seen alot of fights and been in a few myself and what i've came to realise is that alot of the time the two that are fighting just swing for the fences trying to knock each others head off.
Most people in street fights swing alot of constant wide hooks and alot of them miss due to telegraphing them and burning themselves out.
I've seen alot of good solid jabs shot straight down the middle knock people out as they come rushing in swinging with wide shots.
Jabs are under rated in a street fight IMO.
If you master a good jab then you stand a better chance
Getting back to my point, it's that I've seen smaller lads K.O bigger lads, like bouncers, etc, with smart punches like jabs and short hooks, etc.
catch a jaw right and it only takes around 3-4 pounds of pressure to knock someone out!
I agree with your other stuff though!
And i'd much rather talk myself out of a situation if I can.

(Late 1989, Australia) A rather impressionable student of kung fu listened with rapt attention when his instructor dramatically informed the class, "Now that you have reached this level in your training, you can kill wild animals with your bare hands!"
The martial arts trainee took the statement as gospel, and headed to the Melbourne zoo to test his mettle with the wildest animal of all: the lion. In the dead of night, he slipped into the zoo, leapt into the lion enclosure, and engaged a suitable king of the jungle in combat.
He would probably have lost a one-on-one fight, but he never got to try. His naive fight plan didn't account for the enthusiasm of the lion's pride for a tender intruder; nor did it give sufficient weight to the possibility that his instructor didn't know what the hell he was talking about.
Zoo employees found his remains -- two arms and hands -- the following morning, with shreds of red fur grasped tightly in his fingers.

Forget being aggressive .... if all you know is martial arts and you are facing a street fighter - YOU RUN AWAY!!
By the time you have shouted "WhooooHooooo Kung Fu eeeeeeeeee" you will be on your way to hospital.
Martial arts are great for playing with your mates in a Village Hall acting out make-believe fighting ....... when in the real world on the streets its a different matter.

Ah yeah, good point. That must be why we see so many Pikey boxers in MMA and hardly any practitioners of Ju-Jistu/Muay Thai.
Ju-Jitsu is incredibly aggressive. It is about the most "in your face" martial art as far as I am aware.

FECKIN HELL MAN! it looks like he's almost had his face torn off.
I know its just as dangerous but what happened to a good old fist fight?
This craps getting ridiculous!
Also has anyone noticed the rise in people watching AND/OR training in MMA such as UFC?
cant count the amount of young lads (and bouncers by the way ) I've heard out on a weekend out, talking **** about someone else and saying things like "blah, blah....I'LL choke them out, and break his arm with an armbar or triangle etc!
...Oooh and my personal favourite from a young'n the other day..
I'll ground 'n pound him!!!
It's getting out of hand, although I never find trouble It's always in the back of mind when i'm out that some muppet like this may start.
I've watched UFC since it was unheard of and I never claim to know the moves or act like I can ground 'n pound anyone!
Just seems like every other person I come across is an "ultimate fighter!"

The really good martial artists are sensible enough never to brag when out with mates and know that the best strategy is always to talk yourself out of trouble/walk away etc..
A mate once asked his Ju Jitsu instructor if there was any way he could become unbeatable.
"Yes", replied the instructor "Don't get in a fight in the first place"
Wise words!

Pete, I'd pitch even a grandad (like you) with only beginners level experience in Krav Maga against any street thug.

Granted Ive seen some tasty lads put some ppl who've trained in the likes of MMA and Muay Thai spark out, but its mostly lads who arn't born into these type of environments or freeze in situations like that, thats what its all about, reacting to a scenario and confrontation.
An average scrap on a saturday night or a spilled pint normally lasts 5 secs if that, now someone who knows how to throw a proper punch and move is goiung to have a distinbct advantage over some p1ssed up loon windmilling like ****.

The street isn't like the Village Hall is all I'm saying.
It's messy, it's ugly, there are no rules .. eyes are gouged out, ***** are ripped off, ears are bitten and arms broken - in the blink of an eye.
It's nothing like the weekly handbag fights of Ki Quando or whatever they are calling it this week ...... problem is that you are with 'friends' whilst practising - street fighters fight with strangers every week and they are dirty sons-of-bitches!

"He looked at my bird, I had no choice but to take his head off to prevent further violence"
Unfortunately, the one bit of advice any martial arts instructor would give you is to get the first blow in, as if it lands as intended, it's often decisive! e.g. A kick to the nuts, or a palm strike to the nose puts the biggest man down!

I agree with the 'run away' tactic ...... I'm getting on now though, so standing my ground is maybe all I can do!
Going down on the floor MUST be avoided at all costs - work on your stance and don't kiss the tarmac until after your opponent!

One of the worst mistakes majority of people make when confronted in a Fight is Hessitation, you stand there and wait for the other person to react/throw the first punch.there maybe some pushing and exchange of words before anything actually happens,it's how most fights first start..Sometimes you can talk your way out of it,and does sometimes work (you can usually tell and get a feeling for those that will walk away after a few words and those that won't).But if it don't you have got to take this person by suprise and make the first move, and once you have made physical contact, don't stop until the person is down and out on the floor..Another common mistake,is when someone for example, hits a person and then stands there and waits for the other person who has just been hit,to react back..If your by yourself and theres say three of them, then yea you really just want to be getting out of there,so you can run to safety,or throw in a few punches and then make your escape..I think being aware of your surroundings is important too.If you go out on a weekend and you know that a certain club in town is popular for trouble,Then don't go there..

I knew this thread would get all the keyboard warriors going
This was exactly the thing. Most of us found the situation amusing and didn't want to call each other "****" etc. As we know that we're not going to batter seven shades out of each other it felt hard to create hostility towards our partner. What I really need to know is how to tap into a frame of mind imagining that I am going to come to some harm, but at the same time be able to control it as it's only training.
