It does not whine at all it maybe the synchro as iirc it is common problem, Daz Davies should be able to help on that as he had some synchro issues.

In regards to lever yes it does seem very loose in the socket and makes for a mushy gearchange. My brother has newage jdm sti and his is solid and direct like my 5 speed box used to be.

Hi Banny

I've got a 6 speed newage (Jap) STi box in my bugeye........it's a bit like stirring porridge, especially the change into 3rd gear

Did you say there was a short shifter for the newage 6speed which could help ??

I had a Prodrive short shift on my bugeye 5 speed WRX and the gearchange was nice and crisp (needed a firm hand though lol).

Cheers

oops forgot to say my 6 speed conversion doesn't whine but does make a "moooo" sound in reverse.....it's like having your own personal cow in the back seat LOL

any ideas ?

Shaun

PS I guess the crunch into third is a syncro problem

Shaun never heard of that one before lol In regards to the quickshift I think revolution do one for the 6 speed.

Going to let the garage have a look at it and get a quickshift it that is the only way to sort the problem.

The "sloppy" stick is usually down to two possibilities.

a) the circlip is missing holding the ball into the socket at the bottom of the stick

b) the wrong bolt has been used to attach the shifter arm to the box, allowing too much movement

The circlip is present at the bottom of the stick, I think that maybe one of the o-rings is missing that goes round the cage. going to dissasemble today & have a look.

Six speed box (obviously)

Either a six speed prop or a prop from an auto.

Providing you're putting a UK box onto a UK car it really is as straight forward as that. The 5 speed clutch will fit so no need to change that.
how much did your 6 speed conversion cost, where did you get the box from all info will help, plan on doing a 6 speed con for my00 very soon. cheers

The box and linkage cost me £1500 (four years ago) prop shaft 100
Fitting from RCMS with a new flywheel and gearnob was about £700
