Mines Just gone today , Near side front without any warning or whining noise that i would generally expect from previous cars ive owned with a faulty wheel bearing. Brakes failed also and had to pump to get pedal back up approaching a roundabout, very scary !! The noise sounds really nasty but luckily only happenned a couple of miles from home so hopefully the hub will be ok, fingers crossed!! My car is a JDM STi and has only covered 30K Miles so well worth doing as a general maintenance job at a relatively low cost to be sure of your own and others safety, if you dont know how old your bearings are, then get them changed or at least the front ones. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!!!

Sorry to hear this

I know traditionally wheel bearings make a noise when they go/going but it seems this is defo not the case anymore. There wasn't any noise to indicate this or any difference in handling except when breaking and even then it was unclear as to why....

Rick told me that 2/3 rds of the noisy ones have already damaged the hub by the time they are stripped.

Mine was !

Once PPL find out its the wheel bearing is most of the case. ours went to 2 different places and probably did 300 miles before someone told us it was a bearing since then i tell anyone with pad knock-off or similar to get them looked at, as ours needed a new hub.

i had one go last year.

On trip to the Ring, just as we got to Adenau it started to creak. Didnt think it was a w/b, so carried on driving, until the brake pedal hit the floor.... on the Ring! (scary to say the least).

The bearing actually disintigrated and i had it replaced by a local garage. 500 euros lighter i made my way home a day late!

Where can wheel bearings be purchased from Subaru dealers? How much are they to replace? I assume they are different hubs for WRX's / STi's ?
