Rotated Up/Downpipes

Im not worried about the stock block Neil... the more i think about it the more i think there is alot of scare mongering around the strength of the EJ257 block.
All the guys in the US dont sleeve untill way over 500bhp. Im more inclined to think that if its tuned properly with no det and its built right from the outset the stock block will be fine for a GT30.
If i had it sleeved id be worrying about the liners dropping anyway. So sod it, im just gonna build it as it is and see how it goes.

But US ponies are smaller than UK horses...
I got to be honest, I was worried about the dropped liner issue, and that is also partly why I decided to stay safe-ish with the std block set up.
If you can afford it, go for it..

Frayz my spec is a little messed up at the moment due to being in between mods, Its a chy wright 2.5ltr running a gt35r on sti5 heads. But since my car is a 2003 sti ??? My heads are nearly finished at ZEN as they are getting new urated valves and uprated cams from " Lateral Performance" Once sorted I'm hoping for very high 500's.
I personallly think rotated is a waste of cash but if I want to add say 100bhp more to my car its far far easier on rotated than in standard position

hi frayz your spec is very similar to my engine exept i have ported heads and piper 280 lift cams with the turbo i have for sale in classifieds when it had a weak wastegate actuator we made 430 at 1.3 bar the boost was already falling at this point when we fixed the wastegate issue so it would hold 1.6 the power was realy noticably more than the 430 to a point we destroyed the block I am having liners, I know many here have got away with it, we just diddnt The bores distorted to a point the oil rings couldnt seal, oil passed the rings ...Oil on full boost = wrecked block Luckily the heads were undamaged the new liners cant move because their stepped, as we wrecked an engine we have to build stronger and faster so we are going rotated, if i wasnt the turbo i have now is just a realy good piece and id keep it,
did you notice RCMS do a direct fit GT35 another option, Mine is the owen developments 475+ hybrid garret
Simon JGM when he mapped the car said if it wasnt for the wastegate it would be 480+
good luck

Opps just realised what you meant!!! Yes mine is linered but mine is on a 2.5ltr closed deck block. So don't get my block confused with other 2.5's
mine can easily handle a gt35r at 2bar of boost. A normal 2.5ltr with uprated parts ??????? your guess is as good as mine

well we diddnt we had a regular 2.5 block and as i said even my set up was enough to distort the bores,

we are saving the cdb for a 2 litre when the 2.5 has had enough we are having thick wall liners and 14mm head studs it will either handle the gt35 or it wont

A good car with the right setup to match the 2.35 power zone can make up for the 165cc deficit.

ps - if I got a good offer for my block....... I'm not saying that I wouldn't be straight on the phone to Chy

Very nice.
Think i'll just stick to my stock EJ257 with arrow rods and CP pistons with rotated GT30R and leave you big CBD spenders to it
Frayz,
Just keep your eyes peeled they do come up for sale second hand quiet often.
Think i should re name my project as "400-500bhp with Second hand parts"
