I'd been wondering what the Russian millitary's purpose has been "poking" around bits of Georgia other than South Ossetia.
A couple of reasons seem valid now... reduce the Georgian armed forces' equipment. Nick or break lots of NATO stuff the Americans sold the Georgians.
The regrettable part of it is the apparently mindless violence escalating between militias and police.
I read a report earlier today that said "in this town, there are Russians, Georgians and Ossetians, all toting guns and trusting no-one else."
It doesn't read like a situation looking for a resolution. More like a situation waiting for the final accident/misinterpretation that leads to a tragedy. Hope I'm wrong but there's a lot of very motivated/angry people out there with guns.

I am very ignorant when it comes to what going on outside my little world, unless it rubs off on me.
I take it this is a recent happening as I firmly believe that half of the Russian federation were in my hotel 3 weeks back...poljots everywhere.
So they must have gone home and manned their tanks to invade.
I found the Russians to be the new Germans, Ignorant queue pushers, with no manners, and bad attitudes to everyone other than their own.
It didnt say in the Delphin Palace brochure, 80% sold out to Russians, I wouldnt mind the hotel down the road was call the Kremlin Palace, obviously they felt the need to invade next door.
Later Yozaloftski
