Personally I find comparing someone to a person with disabilities is pretty low.

I think we have moved on a huge amount with regards to public attitude to severly handicapped people, and I suspect people like Joey Deacon have played abig part in that, as JACKO suggested.
If I call someone a "spaz" or "mong" I am not personally comparing them someone with diabilities, I am calling them a fecking eejit.

I have a mate with severe Cerebral Palsy who doesn't get bothered by such things, what he does get bothered about is people treating him like he is simple, robbing him cos he cant fight back, taxi drivers driving off when they see his chair, when you are living that every day the odd smartarse saying these words is fairly low on the agenda.
I remember a Downs Syndrome lad as a kid, used to tag along with us, on his BMX, which he had been given by his older brother, the brand of which was a Mongoose, and guess what, to personalise it, his brother removed the "oose" bit, which at the time we thought was hillarious, he didnt understand or care, he just wanted someone to play with.
So, my point is, these words will die out, in the meantime, dont get too hung up if I call you a Mong, I am not suggesting you have Downs Syndrome and dont consider that a slur anyway, its just me being born in 1970 and being a kid in the eighties, sometimes I forget, please forgive me for I am a Retard

Oh come on, they are general purpose insults that most people use who say them mean no disrespect to the disabled but it just slips out.

But carry on justifying it's use, it seems that you're doing a lot of that recently and I'm not sure who you're trying to convince more. I do wonder if your children were mentally or physically disabled you would fine it as entertaining.

Because your mate says nothing doesn't mean he approves of you using that type of language, in fact it shows a complete lack of moral fibre for you to even consider using it in front of people with disabilities.

Ok, will never use it again, I am suitably humbled and chastened, are the following acceptable, just so I know, will I offend anyone other than then intended recipient of the insult,
****, W4nker, Tosser, Arsehole, ******** ?
As for recently, you must have lurked for a long time or been using another name ?

Recently as in 'this thread', is that clear enough for you?

I am not getting into a slanging match, it doesn't interest me.
It takes a special, extra helping of politically correct left wingedness to make Pete seem like a Bad Guy.

The same "others" that also think it's acceptable to be derogatory to people with disabilities, well done, pat yourself on the back, your mother would be so proud of you!

In Pete's Urban Dictionary©, the meaning of "spaz" is: Fecking eejit - Jovial pisstake for when someone does something silly.
That's it, it has no connection, whatsoever in my mind to people with disabilities. I mean, if I call someone ****, I also think they are being a fecking eejit. I am not comparing them in any way to a clitoris.

I don't think anyone here thinks its acceptable to be derogatory, discriminate or attack people with disabilities. I certainly don't. You are confusing the use of a word, in an entirely different context, to how it was possibly used by some ***** in the 70's.

I must admit, I'm with Pete on this one. There are loads of words now commonly used, which are meant in a totally different way to their original meaning. I for one don't believe Pete is the type of person to use such words mentioned here in any way to belittle or insult someone who is disabled. It's just how our language and use of it has changed over the years.
It's much the same as calling someone a ****, it's nothing to do with original meaning, just a plain old insult now.
I'm not going to say whether I agree or disagree with the use of certain words, that's not me, but I certainly understand, how in this day and age, many words are used, but in a different way, often not associated at all with their original meaning.

Bit like having a location that said something on the lines of you waiting for people to not be able to afford their houses so you could buy them cheap.
Oh your banned, sorry. I can't work out why.
Being 'super rich' isn't worth much on the internet is it?

I just watched Tropic Thunder and it is funny in a Ben Stiller kind of way.
Tom Cruise and Robery Downey Jr are good.

Please don't use the term w4nker as an insult J4cko, it's a terrible affliction I've had to suffer with for a number of years and despite loving support and joining several self help groups, I can't shake off the condition (no matter how hard I try).
