Then of course you Southerners AND Northerners could aspire to living in the unspoilt fields somewhere in the narrow band they call the middle. Usually the domain of those that choose not to be in either North or South but could easily travel if necessary.

We have a winner.

Got to say you guys have put a smile on my face. In my last 3 months of travelling Ive met very few north English people. When I did meet some and they commented on the lack on Northerners I came to the concullsion that Northerners probably dont leave their home place as much because we actually like living there.

(OK Im a bit in the middle now but I had no choice. Regardless of biasedness though I actually do believe the people in the north are happier and therefore more friendlier.)

Outskirts are ok. Was at a mate's (BD10) last week and it's rather nice there. His house would cost 500-550k where I live, but he got it valued @£210k recently.

City centre is 'kin bleak though. Leeds planners must love having another 300k people (minus the asian pop) to guarantee visiting Leeds to spend their money!

Taking the preverbial - the t is silent, but southerners rarely get it right

You probably can in Bradistan, but you'd be shunned by the community!

rubbish
I work in local government in the north, and see per capita figures for the country. as usual, London recieves far more per head in most areas.

funny how Bradford gets to represent the north though. yes it's a **** hole, and I was born there, but it's no worse than Croydon or Slough, or numerous other places within a stones-through of London village.

the outskirts of Bradford are some of the nciest places in Yorkshire - certainly West Yorkshire, but yes the dip in the middle needs filling in and starting again. The problem is they have come up with grand schemes for Bradford for decades, then run of of money or good will and shelve them - generally just after pulling down historic buildings.
I wonder if they have student town planner and architects practice on Bradford, then move to Leeds when they've learnt from thie mistakes!

if that's up to date, that's an interesting read. I presume it includes benefit payment, which will probably be highest in the NE where there's serious unemployment.
These figures though are VERY different to grant allocation and funding cuts in my sector

the other interesting(ish) thing from those figures is that all of them are high than the tax paid by the average British worker (asuming an average salary ~£25k). That surprises me.
