...OK so we could send a semi fit athlete, or we could send someone who missed 3 drug tests instead.
OK they got a medal.....but they still missed 3 drug tests

This is what a real 'sporting hero' looks like for me -
Maarten van der Weijden
![](http://www.nos.nl/export/Images/weijden_378_tcm16-410103.jpg)
This guy was diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia when he was 20. He beat it after 6 months in hospital and 4 chemotherapy treatments and made his comeback when he was 24.
He is now 27 and won gold at the 10km swimming marathon in Beijing today
And he didn't blub once on camera!

Not really surprised I have to spell it out.
He's a supreme example of a human being who has recovered from adversity and with some style too. Also he didn't steal someone else's olympic place, fail or blub all over the place. Perhaps you see nothing to admire and prefer to continue to blindly worship the whiney one instead?

Blimey!!!
"Look out for Ireland's Jamie Costin in the 50km walk. Days before Athens he was involved in a horrific car crash and broke his back in two places. It was feared he would never walk again. Yet here he is. A true story of what the Olympics are all about!"

Ah well, whatever all the mardy, sour, oafs on here say about Paula she is still the world record holder by a huge margin, the most successful and constantly fastest female marathon runner in the history of the world.
Obviously that isn't good enough for all the Snet super heroes though. I wonder what sporting achievements they have to their names?

That and people who avoid paying their taxes by re-locating to places such as Monaco. I'm sure there are some who'd believe St. Paula did such a 'heroic' tax dodge for the British people too

She well deserved her entry in the race because had her injury held off she was in a position to win gold. The other British girl who must have been the next best competitor managed 6th and she deserves all the praise for that, but not yet in Paula Radcliffe's class.
