Yes the 08 is a terrible looking car, awful just bad, and the thought of that hatchback makes me want to top myself............. I would never trade my wagon for one of those, not ever, no sir, never never never.

I have sat in one too. Interiour is marginally better than that in my car in terms of quality, which IMHO was one of the best of any Impreza pre-hatch (barring the S204 of course), but I did find it all a bit cramped.

I've tried to like the hatch as it does grow on you from the initial disgust... but I am now just apathetic to it to be honest.

A lyrical marvel. Oh how you capture the whole essence of the car in such a colourful and playful way, utter brilliance

So, basically, the new car is so bland looking and so much like the other hatchbacks that there may be many about I just haven't noticed them?

Thats what I thought - I'm going to take a very close look at every Hatchback I see now and see if I can guess what it is - is it an Astra, a Mazda 3 or ........ an Impreza!!! ... or, more worryingly, a KIA!!!

Sorry to have to break this to you all, but it's a matter of moving with the times. Soon the only pre 08 Impreza's ie classics, newage will be the ones driven by chavs on police, camera action, and i think Subaru want to get away from the boy racer image and appeal to the main stream weather that a good or bad thing. There's nothing individual about the saloon, thats why i drive a Wagon, same fun but you don't attract the wrong sort of attention.
So i don't think i will be criticising the peeps on here that have laid out the cosher and bought an 08. I would seriously consider one myself if i could afford.

Was taking the ****, out of all the negative comments regarding the 08, note that i drive a wagon that technically is a hatchback
Incidentaly, i don't think we should be slagging of people that have bought and own the 08. The last time i saw such negative comments regarding the Impreza was over on MLR, so i don't think we should be reading them on here. Constructive criticism fair enough, but slagging because it hasn't got the right sort of pedals???????

Fair enough... I was confused

As for the negative comments..well...as you noticed..most of the 08 owners on here choose to not fuel the trolling. The car's been designed for the newer generation of subaru owners, one shape to cover Europe, reducing costs, providing a practical 5 door hatch, while still providing the older generation with the performance they demand/expect... but the Impreza's days are numbered.

Every dog has it's day..and I think the age of the big winged, loud exhausted, turbocharged saloon rockets has passed... the government has started the rot, and the buyers will continue to dwindle until we're all in diesels or hybreds...

I finally got round to driving one last week, can't really give an in depth review as it was only about 20-30 min test drive, but ...

It feels every bit a 1400kg car (current car is a '95 STi)

Steering feel is worse than my current car

You need to read the manual to get the most out it (accordingly!)

It's lost a lot of soul/character, no raw edge, no burble ...all the things that to me made an Impreza 'special' ...it's all gone a bit Audi/VW, but with worse plastics ...definately Toyota influenced

Maybe i'm getting too old, or maybe i need to wait for the Type R/RA/Spec C?

Plenty of grunt on tap tho'

Show me a manufacturer whose cars haven't gone that way. It's the changes you mention that will make the new car so pleasant to live with day to day and also save your life when you hit something.

Well, you are one up on me because i haven't got around to test driving one yet. Will have to get round to the stealers and do a bit of tyre kicking. Have seen one in the flesh and it deffo looks better than all the pics i've seen, but i think you can say that about all Imprezas!

I've seen two on my travels a white STI (looked ok) and a stickered dealer wrx. STI looked ok.
As to the comments on not seeing many on the roads -I dont normally see that many saloon / estate Subaru's in my day to day travels. (OK my daily run to work I see one blob driven by a miserable in a suit never smiles or waves back, and two chaved up classics - parked up )
Subaru's sales figures are much smaller than say the volume sales of say vauxhall and Ford / VW group so kind of expect to see less !

Yes it's deffo a bit heavier to drive than the newage..and way heavier than the classics..but that's the trade off for being safer I suppose...

Initially I thought so too, but the more you drive it the better it feels... the Auto diff takes some getting used to.

Not really! lol...just stick it in S# mode and AUTO diff and enjoy.
