There is more than one religion where self flagellation is practised by those who feel that they ought to make themselves suffer to display their beliefs. Seems a bit strange to me but if that is how they feel it is up to them.
Whatever I personally think about the infraction system, I regret to see it being abused as it has been recently. That sort of thing will of course undermine the system and it will end up in disarray. Unfair infractions deserve to be treated in the way that the rules have stated that they will be.

We all know that it depends on who you are whether the rules on unfair infractions are applied fairly and justly.
However, there is hope on the horizon - there are some posts stating that the old webmaster is no longer here, a clean new broom to swept through would do no harm whatsoever.

The crux of it for me is that this went ahead even though it is against our laws and rules.
Hiowever they are being prosecuted so that is a good thing.
The chap responsible will hopefully get placed on the child offenders register and be monitored.

On the main point of this thread, I also agree that the self flagellist was totally wrong to make the two young people do the same thing.

Good question. ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Why do people drink themselves to death? Why do people smoke? Why do people take drugs? Why do people self harm- whether in the name of religion, Kate Moss, or due to peer pressures? Self harm is any shape or form is wrong IMO.
Non-religious peeps often get their goat after seeing some religious thought becoming a compulsion to follow. What I am pointing out is that if the non-religious can do it on the name of "**** all existing", why can't a religious one go off the bender to do the same on the name of God? Both of the types are equally deluded. Non-religious societies are performing similar acts with free will (and free *****
). Does it make it ok, just because they have no gospels, mantras, and Khuda's words to tell them to commit self harm?
You laugh at twisted religious beliefs. Me too![Thumb](images/smilies/thumb.gif)
But it doesn't make me stop laughing at the non-religious idiots either, who carry on committing the same (or causing the similar to others) by thinking that they themselves are Gods.![Freak3](images/smilies/freak3.gif)
Both pathetic and equally laughable/weepable IMO.

A fine, well-reasoned post.

Doing just great thanks 'Hottie'. Both our boys are growing strong. Oldest starts school in two weeks. His first day at school starts with a church sermon. I'll be at his side to shield him from the nutters. Kind of fitting for this topic I guess.

Jolly good ![Cool](images/smilies/cool.gif)
Mine once said to me (he was 10, then)- "Mum, I don't believe in Jesus." I was a bit shocked at that, as I don't know where this talk came from??? Well, it was Christmas time, and in school they were practising all Bethleham and Little Donkey kinda songs. So, I suppose things were fresh on his mind. I was curious to know about his random statement, so I asked him for his reason for not believing in God. He answered- " Mary couldn't have been pregnant without a man, no way!"
Not long after we lost a couple of our friends in a fatal road accident, he said the same thing again- "I don't believe in God. Too many bad things happen to innocent people, and there's no God to stop them from happening."
Logic means everything to some kids of this century, Suresh
The best thing is that he himself doesn't think that he is some kind of reincarnation either
So, no smoking and over-indulgance in self-ruining passtimes for him. He chooses not to.

I reckon they just do it to take their minds off the fact they cant have a pint, a Bacon Butty, work on a "Solo Project" and have to attend the mosque every few hours whilst having to swallow all that mumbo jumbo.
As for proving their faith, why cant they just have a chat and say, "You know what, I bloody love Islam, its the best religion there is".
I think as well, they may get in trouble for a race/faith hate crime as they are harming a Muslim, taken very seriously I beleive.

The 'individuals' involved in this so called religious act are far from being orthodox Muslims rather most of them come well outside the fold of Islam. They are from a group called the Shia (mainy are based in Iraq - Mahdi Army etc., Iran and Persia).
The 'ritual' they perform is based on self punishment due to their forefathers abandonment of a well known figure in Islam at a battle where he was killed.
In Islaam the children is not blamed for the mistake of the parent nor a family member condemned for the actions of a spouse etc.
They attribute themselves to Islaam but are far from it as the likes of Abu Hamzah, Bin Laden etc.
