I generally like the Olympics and think that the London will have no trouble hosting it. The UK media is extremely negative and London does have the infrastructure to host it.
However I thought the closing ceremony bit was very dated and unimaginative, all that was missing were the Spice Girls. I do worry a bit for the opening ceremony because it's not in the British culture to be as flashy as perhaps the Chinese, US, Australia and it could be hijacked by the same idiots that do the spin and marketing for Labour.

The only political posturing here mate is by you!!
If you want to see how things can be done, look no further than Manchester, and the facilities built for the Commonwealth Games, ALL of the facilities are being used by the community (this is one big reason why we won the games in the first place)
The reason the Athens facilities are unused is because of poor planning, the IOC want the games to change, they want what London is offering ie legacy and regeneration
Why you choose to turn this into YET ANOTHER Leslie slag off the govenment / conspiracy crackpot-a-thon I know not?
The games organising committee are NOT the government, it is the government that have capped the budget, it will be the conservatives that see this through, although the committee will probably not change.
Les do me favour, try thinking before posting more utter tripe

I was saying what I thought about the organisational abilities of our present leaders bearing in mind what we have see before, and also at the moment. Does the Olympic Games really justify the regeneration with its enormous costs when the country is in such a parlous financial state. The Chancellor is going to forget all their own guidance from before and borrow some £80 billion this year! I know it is a good thing to do all that rebuilding, but there are many more pressing matters which need to be addressed. I am within my rights to mention that because they are tied up with it all and if the committee which must have been appointed by them screws up-where does the buck stop? Yes the Games are a world event of course, but we need to "cut the cloth" as they say! Have they capped the budget such that the committee can't manage all the present government plans to the detriment of the Games itself which is after all what it is all about?
I wonder who organised the British part in the closing ceremony, Not much to write home about was it? Pretty embarrassing really.
