I agree with that but how many people have actually heard a JDM car with a proper exhuast system?
I had never heard off one until i bought mine. Same with my friends and last week whilst out at the pub i recieved a few nice comments from people saying how sweet it sounded and what the hell had i done to it.
They arent common enough and you really need to be in the car to appreciate the noise or at least following it.
I am converted to the twin scroll noise which there is nothing normal about, Its a sound all off its own.

I LOVED that sound... and I love the sound of my JDM with a full decat Milltek on it.. If I was asked which I prefer I honestly couldnt tell you!
The UK Sound is definetly more in your face.. but when the JDM come on song at around 5k.. mmmmm .. I will do some sound files over the weekend
This is my old 03
YouTube - Subaru STI MY03 TSL Firestorm
YouTube - Subaru STI MY03 TSL TurboSmart VTA
I have even been good this time and not fitted a dump valve on.. I miss that sound more than the exhaust.. But with out opening the can of worms thread.. My 06 runs alot healthier than my 03 did with the VTA..

Had my MY03 STi JDM for over 5 years now. During that time the only fault it developed was the infamous rear shock problem which has effected a lot of STis JDM or UK. So I just upgraded the suspension for the full Type 25 set up
.
Big thumbs up from me. Get a JDM that is on the tax band that means you should not get caught with the huge increases coming in and your onto a winner

I disagree with pro import.
The classic imports are better but the blob and hawk scooby i prefer type uk
I think the uk cars , usually are in better condition than the jap imports. My view is we spend more money on maintaining the USED cars than the japs ever do......
Anyway saves you money/time messing around with converting the kmh speed and all the other stuff you have to do with imports ...mapping for lower octane etc

JDM All the way!
The JDM are stronger engines as the Japs dont scrimp like the UK does!
Twin scroll gives you a quicker spool up and once mapped with a full pipe and airfilter you are looking easy 350!
Twin scroll sounds different.. and yes you dont get that growly burble that you get with UK cars because of the equal length manifold. The sound they do produce how ever is lovely! Just sounds like a real performance car!!
Speak to Juggers about a JDM Stocklist - Performance Centre Manchester if anyone can sort you out it will be him!

Just make sure you get your JDM mapped! They new engines are much more reliable than the classics.. but if you have a heavy right foot you dont want to take any chances

just found this info from research i did when i used to own a UK 03 STI and dreamt of owning a JDM>
- Twin Scroll Turbo
- Nitride coated, cross drilled crank (improved hardness and oiling)
- 13:1 STI quick rack
- Slightly larger I/C design
- Auto and manual I/C spray (UK get manual activation only)
- More aggressive inlet cams
- Equal length Stainless headers
- Rear wash wipe
- Electric folding wing mirrors (Surprised if uk doesnt have this)
- Privacy glass
- 235 width tyres (UK get 225)
- 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th same as UK, 5th and 6th are shorter
- Front STI Titanium strut brace
- 8,000rpm Redline
- Lightweight multispoke BBS alloy wheels
- de tango'd already
Round section of the rear lamps luminate when lights are on where as Uk cars these are the brake lights. JDM got it right, looks so much better. (pic at bottom)
Indicators are also on the sensible side..
Remap using ECUTEK can give 2 fuel and boost maps, can UK cars have the anti lag type noises mapped in within a given RPM range.. I cant remember? If they can i think the JDM car can have it switchable but i'm prob talking sh*te now.

I went for a JDM Blob Eye, 2nd hand from somebody who bought it new from David Hendry Cars. So although it's a JDM it's spent it's whole life being treated the same as a UK car.
Personally I know the PRO's of the JDM are obvious ( some aren't like the arrangement of the rear clusters, rear light is the circular bit & the brake light the outer bit) as in the above post. It's also harder to get aftermarket exhausts for the twinscroll as I've found, pretty much restricted to about 3 systems. All in all it is great But I miss the scoob sound, it's weird but it does make a difference. My old UK car with a full H&S system on it sounded great. Both are great & with 15 Grand to spend you can have your pick of the best. Good Luck.

Was this one not a 2002 car and not a twin scroll model? Ive still not heard of any twin scroll model which has been modified correctly go bang, the 2002 cars have the same internals as the UK cars, and considering in 3 years of JDM twin scroll ownership and 22k miles, I never blew my engine up running optimax/v power ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

Having gone from a MY02 UK STi PPP to my current JDM Spec C, I personally wouldn't go back, sometimes miss the burble at low speeds with the windows down but once you get a move on and with a modified system then it does sound sweet!!!

Makes up for the 10 uk ones that go bang in its place
but if its about some guy who posted on here ages ago saying his spec c just went bang, think we put that one to rest, wasnt to do with it being standard, long while back (4 months?) but there was something suss about it.
Like I said, more uk ones go bang![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Actually wasnt it the guy who complained about heavy oil useage, we told him that they use virutally nothing, he carried on running it, and i dont think it was standard, possably decatted, oh well, it was "owner" induced anyway.
