I agree, but the problem is that it just creates competition and every silly bugger that has one, will now get on here say they can supply one for less than APi.................... Which makes me look expensive again.

Hi David,
Thanks for replying with a price. I see what your getting at saying publishing prices creates competition for you but in all honesty I think anyone who's interested in buying one is going to shop around anyway, well I am.
And ultimately you could still end up looking expensive whether you quote by publishing your prices or just quoting as and when over the phone.
You cant confuse creating competition with your quote not being competitive Im sure most people would be happier parting with that sort of money from a respected outfit like yours than some dodgy garage who neither knows nor cares what their doing though.
Its finding that balance between feeling like your paying a fair price but are also getting the service you want with it and im sure thats what you feel like your doing and your customers are getting.
You could probably save yourself alot of time if prices for popular modifications, 6 speed conversions, turbo swaps, etc were published anyway as apposed to having to deal with joe bloggs over the phone all the while with the same queries day in day out . . . .just a thought.

Sorry, I don't follow that. Kits for what? To repair the synchro on a 6 speeder. OR sort out 5th on a 5 speeder OR to buy a 6 speed kit?

how long does a conversion take?
assume its maybe the same as doing a clutch swap + change the rear diff?
easy done in a day?
i have been looking in advance for options once the 2.5 is installed

We can do a box alone while-u-wait. Probably the rear diff too. Yes, It's a days work effectively.

thought as much, are you near a town centre or anything like that?
i would probably drive down, drop it off nice and early and mooch about town for a day before driving back up.

Or you can go with kids or a wife/ lady to Warwick castle which is owned by Madam Tussauds. Not a cheap day out though, typical tourist attrartion prices and Warwick does not have much in the way of shops to browse as an alternative.

We drop people off in Leamington Spa for shopping or window shopping. One guy's wife spent so much he thought he'd not have enough left or his bill here. She had at least 3 carrier bags full.

Hi David (API)
Just a couple of observations / comments about swapping to a 6 speed
1. The non-DCCD Jap 6 speed you fitted a few months ago crunches slightly into 3rd gear when changing up from second....do I need to worry ?
2. I hated the new 6 speed gearbox with a vengence for a few weeks.....six years with a newage 5 speed and prodrive short shift...sweet I couldn't work out what gear I should be in and 3rd was a real pig !!.....
until I got the hang of it and discovered 4th Gear
Sorry to have to mention town driving (which I do a lot of) 30MPH is just over 2000 RPM which is pretty relaxed as the old Bugeye 5 speeed couldn't make it's mind up between 3rd and 4th
On road the Jap 4th gear is probably somewhere between my Bugeye 3rd and 4th....This means I can drop down and overtake (on the A69) without having to change up again on the opposite side of the road and keep the turbo spooling up on the back roads
Is the Jap 4th gear the same as the UK box 4th gear......just curious ??
Cheers
Shaun

Shaun, You are the first person ever to have not been delighted immediately with the 6 speed [ at APi anyway ] .
Your original 3rd was 1.366:1 now 4th is 1.346:1 so 4th is slightly higher geared than your original 3rd.
So effectively Subaru have given you an extra gear between 1st and 3rd on your old set up.
The synchro feel is something that afflicts most Subaru 3rd gears and it isn't really a crunch more like a rough engagement. Seriously expensive oil will probably help that.
A crunch is a definite tingle up the arm thing. Once it gets to that stage something needs to be done. But if the problem is slight as it appears to be now, then I doubt anyone would be able to see anything actually wearing and be able to fix it with any confidence. Of course anyone can fit a whole new 3rd gear set up at vast cost and fix it but to do it economically it needs to have visible damage.
That make sense?

Hi David
Thanks for the mail....sorry for the late reply but I have to wait until the PC is free nowadays LOL
I'm surprised that I have been the first person to have taken a couple of weeks to get used to a new gearbox / car !!
please note the double somewhere at the end of paragraph 5 LOL
I had 13 years with Toyota MR2 gearboxes and it took me a while to get used to my bugeye.....likewise it has taken a couple of weeks to get used to the new STi 6 speed geargox in place of the 5 speed
My post was not a critisism of API in any way but I just wanted to put across my impression that the STi gear ratio's and the 4th in particular was worth the swap
Does this make sense ?
Cheers
