nixxon its a subaru approved car that came with 12 months warranty from a main dealer. According to the dealer you can pay each year and keep the warranty until the car is 11 years old, hence why some P1`s are advertised with "subaru" warranty.

I have used independent specialists for work on my previous scoobs and they have never washed the car. Having a dealer wash the car is news to me, although if they had it in for a full service then maybe but It was only in to have a couple of rear shocks.

How in gods name was i to know they were going to wash it? they didnt tell me?

Why should i have to tell them "Oh... just do the shocks please dont wash my car".

They gave a service i didnt ask for and damaged my paint in the meantime. few scratches maybe i could have lived with it. circular scratching on all panels consistent with a gritty sponge, why should i just accept that?

What if you took your car in for 4 new tyres and the dealer decided to clean your alloys whilst he was at it, used a corrosive cleaner and damaged the lacquer?

I can understand the OP's point, after paying to have the work done, and then having it undone by the dealer, but....

Can you really notice it standing 3 feet away in normal daylight ? Most cars look nice and shiny and glossy from a distance, but look up close and you'll see the scratches, orange peel effect on the paint from when it was sprayed etc...

Drive your car 100 miles on the motorway and chances are you'll pick up a stone chip, or scratches from general debris hitting the paintwork. Park it in a supermarket car park and you'll get dings in the doors.

While loving your car and wanting to keep it looking great is fine, there has to be a limit where you give in and admit it is just a machine that is designed to move ( often at high speeds ) and will inevitably come into contact with things that will mark the bodywork.

S3TH - My apologies for calling you a sad git. I'd be just as anxious over my car coming back from a service and not "feeling right". Paintwork, I can't get excited about, ad with my foz being white, it would be a losing battle from the start. It gets a hose down every spring, whether it needs it or not! Each to his own.
They have probably started washing cars to keep their punters with them in these worsening times.
Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.
Cheers, Nick

Yes mate it does... IM KIDDING Congrats on getting your impreza last week

S3th, i feel for you, I'd be gutted too if i'd laid out for paint correction, or in my case - just had my car sprayed.

Whilst the 2 bucket method does seem proper ****, it does make sense. Perhaps if you first win a manager over to the idea of it (Demo video from youtube?) then maybe he'll be more understanding to why your 'making a fuss'.

I do agree you should have stipulated not to wash the car really, but you live and learn eh. Maybe they shouldn't carry out ANY extras without consent, but they are working on a car rather than operating on your child. They just think they're doing you a favoure...

i get mine cleaned by the albanians at the end of the road lol

I would never let the local subaru garage clean my car, seen there work before on one of my old cars, could have done a better job with my hands and a bucket of cold water

Apology accepted nixxon, thanks.

If my reaction to what the dealer has done seems OTT its just that this is the most amount of money I have ever spent on a car and i picked up the detailing bug about 3 years ago and have progressively developped it.

I was really happy with the work that has gone into the apperance of my car as when i bought it the paint was in a sorry state and you can see the results in the links ive posted.

Had an interesting thought though. My mcrae gathering sticker is still on the bonnet, thus if i peeled it off there will be a nice immaculate, scratch free piece of bonnet. Could use that as evidence to illustrate my point to the dealer maybe?

people are still missing the point.

If i take my car down a dirt track and cover it in mud, fair enough thats my choice.

If i cilp a wall when parking and take a chunk out of it, thats my fault, i live with it.

Having some uneducated cretin mark every panel on my car negating the 10 hours of paint correction a few months back in the space of 5 mins with his lame **** attempt of a car wash that i didnt even ask for... well sorry but I have a problem with that and they can pay to correct their error.

crystal yet?

I totally agree with S3TH.

I too detail my car and would be seriously pissed if that happened to me. Detailing and paint correction is expensive at the least and takes a huge amount of time and care to upkeep.

Hey, ive lent my car to my friend before now. He happens to be a reputable tuner on here and is very well respected. Even he isnt allowed to wash my car. Id rather get it back dirty lol.

Swirl marks are swirl marks and the only reason S3TH is having to use a UV light to see them is due to the car being inside and we have bad weather at the mo. These will be 100% bold as brass in natural sunlight.

You have every right to be majorly pissed about this mate, i hope you get it sorted.

LOL, you are obviously passionate about the cars condition and fairplay, and yet you stuck the sticker on the paint, on the bonnet! lol, hope it hasn't been on there too long!

If the car has plenty of polish and sealer on the paint it will just lift off

S3TH - I'm with you 100%.

Whilst I no longer have an Impreza I have a new shape Mazda 6 sports estate and I wash it every week and it gets waxed every month. It gets snow foamed, two bucket method, interior vacumed out etc etc.

everything done basically to keep it in A1 condition, this is for two reasons:

1. the car is 3 months old and has covered 12,000 miles, regardless I want it looking tip top.

2. When I take my car to the dealer their are no arguments about whether the car is looked after, it's glaringly obvious that it is - to quote the service manager at the local dealer "are you sure it's ready for a 12,000 mile service" It pretty much looks like the day it was delivered..... in fact the bodywork is probably better bar a few stone chips.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and to do as they please. It is obvious you enjoy keeping your car in A1 condition I respect that - others will not however.

what matters is that you you have invested a large amount of money in a car you enjoy and some idiot has made a mess of your hard work, it should be sorted out by the idiot's in question and I hope that it is!!!

Good luck

Paul

I'm just struggling to understand why a dealer would know an anally obsessive owner from a normal one?

If you don't own a car for transport purposes you need to let the dealer know

IMHO

Yeah car does have plenty of sealer and wax on it. Id love to keep the sticker on forever but there will be a nice square visible as the sun will slowly fade the surrounding paintwork overtime.

You probably one of the people that uses fairy liquid as car shampoo and polishes it every week with T-Cut.

If i wanted a car just for "transport" purposes, id get a mondeo.

thanks for coming.

i feel for you mate, all these people with problems about your original post obviously dont know how to clean a car properly and cant tell black from white, some peoples cars arent just every day transport, they are peoples hobbies and passion! being a self employed valeter im sorting these problems out all the time, and theres only so many times they can be corrected! i'd go back to the garage and threaten them with court, its something silly like 80+% of garages taken to court loose!

as for something about you cant see if from 3ft away????? if the garage said sorry sir but we dropped the car off the ramp scratched the door and fooked the underneath but its ok you cant see it from here! would you go, oh ok thats fine, NO cause they did it you can see it up close and it wasnt like it before

Where do you draw the line?

If you take a 2 week old car back to the dealer, they wash it with gritty sponge and make it look like a 5 year old car - is that ok?

The dealer has a reponsibility to ensure that cars left in their care are returned in the same condition as they were left in - regardless of whatever car cleaning fetish the owner has.

Thanks m8,

Shame its raining again today as i would show the director myself, might even peel the mcrae sticker off and show him the difference there and then.

going down to detailer this afternoon to get a quote, im not sure how much paint they took off on the last correction but like you say theres only a certain amount of times you can do it.

One thing i didnt mention as didnt think its relevant was the general un-coperative nature of this dealer ranging from the bumper hanging off after i picked it up. I later found a metal bracket inside the actual bumping just sitting loose.

the shocks were knocking from day one, i was not aware of the common STi rear shocks issue so just dismissed it as a random noise. Wasnt until a specialist looked at the car and he knew straight away what the issue were. The dealer then tried to dispute replacing them initially and dont foget this is a "subaru proven" car with a 12 month dealer warranty.

This is strike 3, and a storm is coming, ive had enough.
