Has the damage affected the value of the car?

Not overly i wouldnt say if i had to be completely honest.

however after the paint correction if i went back on their forecourt they could have easily added 500-1k to the price tag. It really was a different car, when i picked it up it almost looked like it had a flake effect in the paint. After all the work a nice clean, deep blue.

If you don't get anywhere with them i'd go down the small claims court route. Think you can use it up to about £5k and the most you pay is about £80.

Could you PM the price you paid for the detailing. I'm sure I cant afford it at the moment, but i'd be interested to know what i've got to save.

For anyone that has had paint correction work and then looks after the finish understands completely where your coming from, I don't understand why dealers do this without asking especially this day and age where they know people are so much more aware of detailing and the such.

Remove your decal for the example that is needed.... take some pics under light to show the difference and maybe arrange to do that at the dealers so they can't say anything about it being set up.

Has anything been said regarding the paintwork warranty ? or is this not in that ?

I do get the concours thing, but just not with Subarus which have an entirely different purpose altogether.

Not a chance,
I comb and brush the pile of my carpet every week, making sure there are no tufts or bobbles that would detract from its neatly groomed lay. You should have seen the state of it when I bought it though, people had been putting their feet all over the dam thing.

To the OP, press your point and small claims if they dont buy into the idea, not my cup of tea this detailing lark but I do keep it clean and appreciate the work and time others put into their motors.

I'm no expert but I'd assume one wash (even dirty) wouldn't put consistent swirl marks in. Scratches yes but swirl marks come from repeated cleaning hence their even nature.... eg this!

(sry if this is your pic pinched from cleaning subsection)

You would be surprised mate, I've seen pics form local detailers and all round great guys Polished Bliss of their work on some Brand Spanking new cars - these are motors which have only ever been washed by the dealer as part of their PDI before handing over the keys to the customer and the state of the paint for a car which is "Factory Fresh" is absolutely shocking.
In these cases the customer has managed to get the dealer in question to shell out for the cost of a full correctional detail so the car is back to it's original condition - ie as it left the factory before the dealers got their hands on it.
Bottom line is I would never let a dealer wash my car, especially any of the Aberdeen dealers.

My mate bought a Astra vxr a year ago,and when he picked it up it was covered in swirl marks,on a brand new car! The reason, the so called valet the garage gave it before he picked it up.I totally agree with you S3TH,especially when you think that every time you correct the paint, your making it thinner.

you would be VERY surprised

my mate got moved to another department and one of his jobs was driving the ******* off the end of the line and parking them up, what a feckin liberty, i was stuck fitting the bloody driveshafts

This kind of damage can be caused by just one bad wash.

The paint on a Scooby is thin anyway and more prone to this kind of marking unless someone uses the two bucket wash principle with lots of fresh water too.

I employed a muppet who washed a loan SAAB several years ago and the car looked as though he had done it with sandpaper!

So, write a letter to the dealer principal [find out his name first]. Point out that you put the car in his garage's care on [date] and that upon its return to you your paint finish had been damaged by unrequested and unwanted cleaiung. Make the point that you hold him responsible for the cost of returing the car to its original condition which will be carried out on [enter date for the detailing appointment] and you will be sending him the bill for payment in 7 days. If the bill is not paid within 7 days you will immediately start Small Claims proceedings [which you can do on line] without further notice.

I just can't believe that the above can happen in one wash..... paint damage yes, scratches yes, some round marks maybe yes but not even concentric circles like this....

but thats just my opinion.

does looks like quite alot of damage from just one wash concidering the amount of times you actually go over one area to wash and dry it,

Hmm, gay because you take pride in something - speaks volumes about you more than the other chap

I think that the deal has a duty of care and if the dealer washes the car as 'part of the service' then that would be part of it.

I would not expect the dealer to owrk on the car using filthy tools covered in muck/grease trhat has been left on the floor, the same goes for the paintwork being damaged by careless parctices.

If you offer cleaning as part of the service then it ned to be right and up to scratch - forgive the pun.

Would anyone in thier right mind clean their car with a sponge that had been on a dirty/floor and picked up muck/gravel, i think not!

Question

Why are you so bothered about swirls when even in a photo you can see the bumper & winglets & fog covers are 3 different colours (Like most blue STi's - my 05 was partly corrected under warranty)?

Why bother anyway??? ffs it's a car, and not a collectable car either say like an e type jag or something! It's a Subaru, and made to be driven - just don't get it at all mate to be honest! I've not wash mine for about 2 months!

I think the point is, the o.p. paid well for a detailer to correct the bodywork, and then some spanner moneky at a delaership has gone and basically pissed o.p.'s money up the wall by undoing the hard work, which the o.p. also put a lot of time and effort into.

That's the gripe.

He should have told them before hand, it's pretty common for main dealers to wash cars when they come in for things. Most people arnt that **** about the way a cars washed - I for one would be chuffed that someone else had cleaned it for me

Exactly, MOST people aren't, thus meaning some are. It's clearly stated in what nooobyscooby said, they have performed a service (albeit shabbily) that wasn't either requested or previously informed of.

It's that simple.
